From Avignon: Morning Wine Tour to Châteauneuf du Pape

1. From Avignon: Morning Wine Tour to Châteauneuf du Pape

This tour takes you to the vineyards of the Rhone Valley, the second largest wine-growing region in France. Vines have been cultivated here since the days of the Romans and the centuries-old tradition is ripe for exploring. Tucked between the Alps to the east and the Rhone River to the west, it is an area rich with natural and manmade wonders. Departing from Avignon, you will drive through the lush landscape on your way to the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The name is familiar across the globe for its exquisite wines, but you will also have time to explore the village and see the ruins of the castle where former Popes built their summer residence after they relocated the papacy to Avignon in the 14th-Century. The tour visits 1 winery involved in the production of red, white and rosé wines. Go to the cellars and learn everything you could possibly think to ask, about the "terroir,“ grape varieties, vinification and ageing process. You will also get a lesson in how to taste wine using your eyes, nose and finally taste. As the French say, "A votre sante!" Cheers!

Awesome tour

This tour is a great way to see a little bit further afield whilst staying in Avignon. Our guide was fantastic- friendly, knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. The staff at the vineyard we visited were also great, and gave us an informative tour where they explained how the wine was made. I highly recommend this tour!

Monday morning drinking!

Wouldn't normally drink that much wine on a Monday morning but an interesting trip. Collected from the hotel by our lovely guide Emma. Our host at the Ogier cellar was an extremely knowledgeable expert with a bonus of being an extremely entertaining character. Good trip nut needed Paracetamol in the afternoon!

Great trip combined history and wineyard visit

We joint Friday morning tour, was little worried if too early for wine, but turned out there were a nice place (Theatre Orange) to visit first then wineyard after. Perfect for the half day. Our lady guide Doreen explained every places well and took us around smoothly. Timing was good and we enjoyed it all.

Nice suprice

Correct at the appointment, good guide, minibus with good air conditioning and got to see what was in the description (in advance). Nice combination of history, culture and tasting. Fun!
