Full description

Departing from outside the visitor information center on Broad Street, Oxford in the morning at 10:00 AM, head to the village of Great Tew. Continue to Stow-on-the-Wold to reach the highest town in the region and browse the honey-colored buildings and tiny tea rooms. Visit the pretty village of Lower Slaughter before going to Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the "Venice of the Cotswolds", where you will have time for lunch. After lunch, discover the gateway to the Cotswolds in the village of Burford. Journey through the valley of the River Windrush and discover amazing villages such as Swinbrook along with the ruins of 15th-century Minster Lovell Hall. Departure will be late afternoon, returning to the visitor information center in Oxford by 5:00 PM.

A most enjoyable trip! The seven towns visited were well selected and captured, not just the charming chocolate-box idyll of the Cotswolds (no shortage of thatched cottages!) but it's unique history, linked to the wool trade and interestingly, to the English Civil War. Our excellent driver and guide, Ian, was a font of local knowledge, entertaining us with surprising stories not heard before. The trip involves a fair amount of walking so comfy shoes are a good idea.

Ian was the perfect guide and his itinerary was well-timed and interesting. We saw a lot of what I had been hoping to see (villages, waterways, lovely gardens). There were 5 people on this tour. The van had a lot of windows so everyone could see well as we journeyed from town to town, plus it was really comfortable. I HIGHLY recommend Ian and this excursion!

Ian was very accommodating fair and friendly. The reason we chose this tour was to actual spend time in the Cotswolds and not just drive through. He walked around with us giving us information but then he also gave us free time to enjoy at our leisure. It was the bank holiday so some of the villages were more crowded. The best was Minster Lovell it's the best way to end the tour before heading back to Oxford. So tranquil, and so many fun stories!
