Mallorca: Tramuntana Tour with Historic Railway Ride

1. Mallorca: Tramuntana Tour with Historic Railway Ride

Experience a tour of the historic railway, called the "Red Lightning," between Palma and Sóller. Travel through picturesque landscapes and past orange groves and almond fields through the idyllic town of Bunyola.  Once in Sóller, continue on your way to incredible Modernist houses. Experience, not just the cultural but the culinary; sample orange crème ice cream at the world-famous "Fet-a-Sóller" cooperative.  You can choose to take the historic tram from Sóller to Port de Sóller, payable on the day. After an approximately 25-minute ride along the beautiful beach promenade, the train ends in the center of the little city.  Walk through this idyllic port town, stop in a cozy restaurant, and enjoy a delicious tapas meal. Then, take a comfortable minibus through the breathtaking panoramic stretch of the Tramuntana Mountains to the artists' colony of Deía. Climb to the highest point of the town and experience a sensational view over the heights of the Tramuntana Mountains, to the picturesque valleys, past the coast, and over the sea. After a lovely walk, enjoy refreshments in the garden of the 5-star luxury hotel, La Residencia. The hotel houses true treasures; over 300 original pictures by artists like Miro and Picasso adorn the walls and sculptures are dotted across the garden. Continue to Valdemossa past a mighty forest of holm oaks and wander the idyllic little town. Visit the excellent museum of the painter Josep Coll Bardolet and see the famous Carthusian cloister where Chopin lived and worked. Enjoy free time to explore on your own amidst the beautiful homes surrounded by Mediterranean gardens full of orange and lemon trees.

We have spent an amazing day full of surprises ! The train journey was beautiful and the guide's knowledge of Mallorca was vast, which made the rest of the day (visit of Sóller, Port de Sóller, Deia, Valldemossa) quite interesting. The typical tapas we ate during the day were delicious and the landscapes amazing. The good humor and the anecdotes of the guide made us spend a really pleasant day and the weather was beautiful (28°C even though end of October). We recommend it !

The tour was well organized and a wonderful experience. Due to the organization we didn't have to queue at the train, but were greeted directly with the tickets. Our guide Johannes was super friendly and we had a lot of fun with our tour group, which was small and manageable, just perfect. The highlight was the stop at Hotel La Residencia, where you really felt exclusive and had an amazing view. Just perfect all round and we are very glad we booked this tour.

We loved this tour! The historic train ride was picturesque and fun. (Tip: Try to sit in the front cars that used to be “first-class seating,” but are now open to anyone.). We enjoyed the opportunity to experience three lovely villages — each uniquely special. Our guide, Johannes, was terrific too! He was knowledgeable and super fun to hang with all day. I highly recommend this trip and be sure to ask for Johannes!

Michael was a knowledgeable guide who knows Mallorca and its history extremely well. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour, as well as the tapas lunch in Port de Soller which was included in the tour price.

Everything was perfect Johannes is a super friendly and very knowledgeable guide
