Unfortunately we had a very long waiting time upon entry (we arrived at 11:15) and we were forced to wait out in the open Square with no shade at all... we then already ran out of our 4 bottles of water just waiting there in full noon 12:00 blistering sun. Our initial appointment was at 11:30 but due to unknown reason we were only able enter the Palace at around 12:15... Once in the Palace it was magnificent. Bit crowded and little bit chaotic in the beginning though, the audio tour was okay, you can wander about in your own pace, pushing the corresponding numbers on your audio device to receive the clear spoken explanations. Maybe next time we will get a guided tour. At (different) entry to the Gardens we were surprised to hear we needed to buy additonal tickets for our two kids, 8yrs and 12yrs old. We mentioned we already booked the 4 person Full Access excursion to the Palace including Gardens, but then they told us children are for free to enter Palace but not the Gardens.

It's a must if you want to see the palace! My family and I made it a day trip. It was a 30 min drive from Paris. Make sure to line up early because even if you have your tickets the line was still long. The audio guide came in handy and it was nice to learn the history. Make sure you use comfortable walking shoes since you are going to walking throughout the whole estate. Once you enter the gardens there are restaurants and they have really good food. Also if you want to splurge and a bit lazy to walk they offer golf cart and bike rentals to get around! Overall it was a great experience and it's a must!

It was not explained that you can enter the gardens in the morning and the time to enter Versailles has nothing to do with visiting the gardens and other attractions! The fountains are launched for half an hour throughout the day, and in the evening even the largest fountain was not launched! After 6 pm, only three fountains were working. This is not a fountain show!
