Full description
Historic and scenic, Père Lachaise Cemetery boasts some of the most expensive and coveted grave real estate in the world. It is the final resting place for famous artists, writers and musicians, from Yves Montand and Simone Signoret to Chopin and Oscar Wilde. On this 2-hour walking tour you’ll wander through this labyrinth of headstones, trees, and paths as your guide points out the famous graves and eccentricities that make this place so special. Oscar Wilde’s tomb surely stands out, covered entirely with bright red lipstick from kisses left by visiting admirers. As you pass Chopin’s tomb it seems that you can almost hear his well-known funeral march. See the final resting place of Molière, the famous French playwright. Famous for irony and satire, Molière, a sick man whose doctors thought he was a hypochondriac, died on stage playing a well man who is a hypochondriac, while the audience cheered him on. The most visited grave is that of the American rock star, Jim Morrison. His grave and those surrounding it are covered with graffiti from the hordes of fans that come here. Enjoy a walk through an extraordinary cemetery and relive the lives of some of the world’s greats.

Hamish was a great tour guide for Père Lachaise! He was very knowledgeable, shared interesting stories about the cemetery, its history and its famous inhabitants. The tour was well paced and lasted 3 hours. The group was indeed small (11 people). Although the entry is free and there is a map with all the famous graves, it would not be the same looking for them by ourselves. The cemetery is very big and the tour makes it very convenient and efficient to go from one tombstone to another, in addition to the stories and history behind each grave. Hence it is a great value for money. Highly recommended!

Very nice and entertaining tour, the guide was so knowledgeable and prepared, and I learned so many new tidbits from him - even about people I've previously researched up on. This is my 2nd time on a Pere Lachaise tour, and this was so much better than the one before. Fantastic tour

We were given lots of history!

Karen was an excellent guide for our visit to Pere Lachaise Cemetery. She gave us time to look as we walked and when we reached the graves on her list, she gave us plenty of information about the people buried there. She also told us about the policies used by the cemetery to determine whose bodies stayed there, as well as the different costs to be buried there. All together, it was a very worth while.
