Full description

The Arc de Triomphe is a Neoclassical take on the ancient Roman triumphal arch style. Fifty meters tall, the view from the platform atop the arch is well worth the hike. See the dozen Parisian avenues radiating out from the arch into the City of Light. Paris is one of the most fascinating places in the world and you will find yourself right at its center. Inspired by the great arches of ancient Rome, Napoleon commissioned the Arc de Triomphe shortly after his victory at Austerlitz. Unfortunately, he never lived to see its completion. At the base of the arch, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier pays tribute to the 1.3 million French soldiers who died in World War I. Behold the eternal flame that is rekindled at 6.30 PM each evening. In addition, there is a must-see exhibition that explains the symbolic importance of this monument. The view from the top of the arch is worth climbing the 284 stairs. From your privileged position, survey all of Paris. Unlike the obligatory Eiffel Tower trip, getting into the Arc de Triomphe is an effort not all tourists undertake. Plus, with skip-the-line tickets, you'll hardly have to break stride on your way in.

The view is amazing and stairway makes for a great picture looking up. Be aware how many stairs need to be climbed. To safely reach the monument you can follow the underground passageway on the Champs-Elysées that comes up at the base of the Arc de Triomphe. Don’t try to cross the roundabout.

I enjoyed making my way up the Arc de Triomphe! The views from the top are breathtaking, and standing next to this building and admiring all the details of the sculptures is impressive! I liked that I didn't have to be there at a specific time, but I could go at any time that suited me best. This wasn't a guided tour, meaning I could stay as long as I wanted at my own pace.

ideal for anyone who wants to see PARIS at 720° from the epicenter of the Etoile be careful however, access to the terrace has to be earned, I haven't counted them but there are many steps to climb. Without being extreme sports, you have to manage your cardio and your breath :-) Unclear reductions in the presentation for those under 18 AND those under 26 with a European national card. It says they have to go to the ticket office first when it's supposed to be a skip the line ticket.
