From Ashdod Port: Masada and Dead Sea Guided Day Trip

1. From Ashdod Port: Masada and Dead Sea Guided Day Trip

The moment you disembark from your cruise ship in Ashdod port you’ll be in the capable hands of a professional tour guide. The day begins with a drive south through ever-changing landscapes until you reach the Judaean Mountains. Then enjoy the thrill of the winding road that takes you down below sea level to the lowest point on Earth. We pause for a moment to enjoy the view and take a photo of the sign indicating that we are now going beneath sea level. Our first stop is at Masada, a massive rock outcrop 434m-high (1,424ft). Ride the cable car to Masada’s flat summit where there are incredible views of the desert and the Dead Sea below. Your guide will give you a tour of the remaining structures from King Herod’s palace-fortress. Find out about the history of Masada, and how it served as an untouchable refuge for Herod and later for Jewish rebels. Learn how King Herod built this palace complex in 37BC-31BC, and see mosaics and archaeological remains of a Roman bathhouse, storerooms, guardhouse, palaces, and more. At the end of the Masada tour, you can spend time in the Masada Museum located at the foot of the mount. The museum holds more than 500 artifacts discovered at Masada, and there is an informative movie about Masada’s history. We continue from Masada to Ein Bokek, a hotel and resort area on the shore of the Dead Sea. Here you can enjoy the Ein Bokek beach. The tour will stop for a lunch break either at a restaurant at the foot of Masada or at the beach. Spend the remaining time relaxing on the beach, and enjoying the unique environment of the Dead Sea. Try smothering your skin in the mineral-rich black Dead Sea mud, or float in the hypersaline water. The water is so thick with salt that you can’t sink! The Dead Sea water, mud, and even the Dead Sea sun are known to be therapeutic to the body and soul. After a satisfying day of new experiences, we drive via the city of Arad back to your cruise ship in Ashdod port.

What people are saying about Port of Ashdod

Great value and well organised. Comfy coach with a very safe driver. Got to see alot in a day. It is very rushed as the guide has to get you back to shop on time. I felt the guide this time had his own agenda and wasn’t flexible at all it was a bit regimented at times but we understood why. a little shopping time should have been allowed in Jerusalem. It was a long day and we missed lunch so we could get a few souvenirs. I was one minute late back from the toilet and the guide didn’t wait for me which was a bit extreme. the chosen lunch venue was very good and fairly priced. Bethlehem was an experience, we had been promised shopping but we got taken to only one shop which mainly sold religious things and was rather expensive. Glad we did the tour as Bethlehem would have been impossible in our own. The driver in Bethlehem was crazy we were glad ti get our driver back. Despite everything it was a great day and I would do it all again. Guide was Ravi or Arvi not sure.

The guide Radian really made the trip. He had great English and was very knowledgeable and helpful. He remained very calm under difficult circumstances., this trip is great value for the price as same trip on the ship was 300 usd. Big problem at start, 1.5 hours of our time lost due to the bus not being allowed into port to pick us up. this made the day rushed at the end. When we arrived at the dead sea the resort was closing in 45 minutes. Would suggest no lunch break is taken at Masada and more time given at the dead sea. The restaurant at Masada was rubbish very unorganised and expensive. We had to eat over 1.5 hours to get the gondola but it was worth it. Despite all these small issues it was a great day and I would Do it again. Take sunscreen, hat , water and good shoes. Thank you Radian, we missed you in Jerusalem.

Our tour with Rafi was great. He was informative, entertaining and handled a few complainers well. My only suggestion would be to change the lunch stop from Masada. They were slow, and food wasn’t good. I know this is difficult with a bus full of tourists. I would have preferred to bring a packed lunch from the ship. Very minor suggestion, I would highly recommend this tour.

This tour gives an great first taste of Jerusalem. After this we're definitely coming back. We're weren't prepared for how bad traffic congestion is. But not blaming tour company for this. Our excellent driver, Mousa, got us to our ship on time, and negotiated through the busy roads.

Tomer was an excellent guide and everything was very well organised and he was very well informed will definitely recommend him. Thanks Tomer warm greetings from South Africa
