Pompeii: Small-Group Tour with an Archeologist
- Skip the line
- Duration: 2 hours
Visit this Roman city with all its temples, theaters, homes, and public buildings. On the morning of August 24, AD 79, the Vesuvius eruption took Pompeii's 11,000 residents by surprise. The dramatic event killed the inhabitants and the city was buried beneath ash. This event created one of the most preserved archeological sites in the world today. Explore well-known sites such as the amphitheater, the Villa of Mysteries as well as the houses of Vettii and Faun, amongst others.
It's really worth going to Pompeii! However, the tickets onsite are sold for 16 EUR while I paid 22 EUR online. This is annoying. I went there on a Saturday that was supposed to be sold out (online), but they still sold tickets to visitors that did not have a reservation.

We had a nice private tour through Pompeii. Our tour guide Paola was very knowledgeable and helped us adjust the tour according to what we were interested and wanted to see. She was very flexible and great as we dealt with our tired young children as well!
Your guide will focus on your needs and attention and, with the use of tablets, reconstructions and multimedia material, you will surely have the best Pompeii experience ever. This is a great family tour including the highlights of the ancient Pompeii: the Marina Gate, the basilica (court house), the forum (main square) with market temples and municipal buildings, the Stabian Baths, the bakery, the House of Menander, the theaters, the plaster casts and much more with the use of a tablet and multimedia material for children. The meeting point will be at the the main entrance of the Pompeii ruins which is called Porta Marina Superiore.
Paolo was absolutely excellent. He is an archeologist who has been (and still is) actively involved in excavations near Pompeii. He was prompt, friendly, and engaging. My 2 daughters, ages 8 and 11, really liked him and learned a lot. He kept s good pace to keep interest high—and also sought out shady spots when he’d stop to tell us about something. Our visit was greatly enriched by Paolo. I walked past other visitors in large groups being strung along—or going it alone without a guide—and felt very glad we chose to use Askos Tours. Even in the hot, walking for almost 3 hours, my girls were nothing but happy and engaged. (And so were the adults in our family: we are 3-generations.) Worth every Euro!

Sergio was an excellent guide, genuine storyteller who is passionate about the subject. He speaks great English and was very easy to understand and follow which is very nice for those of us who don’t speak Italian. The guide is a must at this beautiful site and I cannot recommend this enough. Very interesting history and insights into archeology, the park is a must see and this guide is perfect.
Anna Sorrento was an amazing guide! She led us to the most intersting places of Pompeii and told interesting anecdotes. It was an advantage that she works herself as an archeologue at Pompeii. She also made sure that we could stand in the shade when possible. We highly recommend taking a tour with Anna!
Very interesting tour with guide Paula. She explained many things and answered all our questions. Absolutely recommended as this adds to understanding Roman life.
Really interesting experience, the guide had an excellent in-depth knowledge to Pompeii and was able to give an insightful tour
