Boat tour is on the RETURN TRIP. The TRAIN (not bus) trip was fine and scenic but fairly long. Meeting time changed three times so pay attention to details. Tour ends in a DIFFERENT PLACE so be sure to know how to get back to your accommodations from a different spot. Several of us travelers were expecting more of a quiet informational/nature cruise but this truly ended up being a party boat with loud music, dancing and singing. I enjoyed it well enough but it was definitely NOT what I thought I was signing up for. I wanted more quiet, more information about the wine growing (and less about casinos and hotels).

If you are looking for a chill experience and to see the landscape of one section of the Douro, this may be for you. Not a lot of interpretation. Lunch was delicious and plentiful. The wine was plentiful. It was a good value. The train ride to the boat was relaxing. Tips. Dress in layers as it can be cool early in the day. When the sun shines you may want to reduce your layers. Wear sun protection. Don’t miss the call for lunch. Enjoy! My only suggestion is to not isolate your single travellers…. And please do not put them in less desirable spots for lunch. Let them have a window… we pay the same as everyone else.

We enjoyed the activity, however, a couple disappointments. We were told to be at the train station for 7:45am for the private bus leaving at 8am. We waited around until 9:20am with no seating. The guide didn’t seem to care. We did not take a private bus as mentioned. We took a small, slow and crowded public train. Also, it is not a guided tour. The guide gave very little information on the tour. We were left with a lot of questions. Once we got on the boat, it was lovely and the lunch was great. The staff on the boat were wonderful. A 6 hour cruise down the Douro was exciting but more information during the excursion would have been nice. To improve this activity, please provide more of a ‘guided’ tour as well as manage your meeting time a little better.
