This is a not-to-be-missed experience! Our guide, John Maximus, was amazingly brilliant. His depth of knowledge, not just of food, but also of the history of Portugal and Porto is just so good. We were taken to small eateries and also ‘old’ places that tourists wouldn’t really have a chance of finding themselves. The food we ate was fantastic and plentiful. Despite everything we experienced, it was all done at a relaxed pace. When we told John we didn’t drink and one of us is vegetarian, he just took it in his stride, and organised alternatives. I suffer from arthritis, but the pace was very doable, with plenty of time to pause and sit. I highly recommend this tour, particularly at the beginning of your stay in Porto.

We ended up the only two on the tour, so we had a “private” tour with Claudia Macedo. She was fantastic. It was so nice to have a guide who both grew up in the city and still lives there. She shared so much about the city, history, architecture, culture and her own memories and experiences. The restaurants for breakfast and lunch were nice, and the tastings in between were wonderful. We plan on visiting them before we leave Porto in a couple of days. But the best thing of all was Claudia herself.

“James” was very friendly and welcoming. He shared facts along the journey to each food stop which helped me to appreciate the city even more. He was very attentive at each stop. The food stops were a great variety of what Portugal has to offer. I would recommend this tour to others who love trying new things.
