Full description
On the afternoon of your tour, you will meet your guide at your hotel in central Ljubljana. After a short meet and greet with your driver/guide you will set off in an air-conditioned minivan for Predjama Castle, located roughly 1-hour away in the historical region of Inner Carniola. As you travel, hear how the castle sits 400 feet (123 meters) above ground on a cliff. On arrival, choose to tour the fortress either with your guide or independently. Explore the chambers, linked by winding staircases, and marvel at the collection of historical artifacts, from antique armaments to old artworks and furnishings. Learn of the infamous rebel knight, Erazem of Predjama, who lived here in the 15th century, and hear about the tunnel of Erazem, the secret passage used when the castle was besieged. After around an hour, continue to Postojna Cave, roughly 15-minutes away. Part of one of the Slovenian Karst region’s many cave systems, Postojna Cave is Slovenia’s most-visited tourist attraction and the largest cave in the country. Board the mini-train and travel into the depths of the 13-mile network, and then, with one of the cave's guides, set off on foot to explore its eerie caverns. Admire the otherworldly stalactites, stalagmites and rock formations, and discover how the caves were created. Hear, too, how the cave is home to some 100 different animal species, including the blind salamanders, known as ‘human fish,’ that live in its underground rivers. Following your 1.5-hour tour, head back above ground and travel back to Ljubljana, where your tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel.

Simply the best way to go for a tour of Postojna Caverns and Predjama Castle while staying in Ljubljana. There was nothing we could have asked for more from our tour guide and time in the caverns and castle. Both were worth the time and money to see and the ease of stepping into a van and having all of our travel taken care of made this the best idea for a tour. Our tour guide Matthew was amazing in both his ability to speak about the history of Slovenia but also the culture as well. We loved his smile and warmth and hope to have him again the next time we tour Slovenia.

Our guide Nina was amazing! She knew so much about the history and the architecture, also a very good driver. The caves are 100% worth your time, they’re incredible! The castle is cool but we chose not to go inside, the outside is cool enough.
