Full description
The walking tour starts by the Powder Tower at Namesti Republiky, where you will hear the story of how the new Czechoslovakia Republic was formed in 1918. Discover the dark days of Nazi occupation and liberation by the Russian Red Army in 1945. In the Wenceslas Square you will learn about the 1960s and the Prague Spring, when the Soviet Army crushed the nation's blossoming dreams of democracy in 1968. The tour takes you up to the Velvet Revolution in 1989, signaling the end of this grey period of Cold War history. You'll take a break for beer, kofola, or a snack in an authentic canteen of the working-class. Visiting a nuclear bunker from 50s will round off your communist adventure in Prague. You will also see historical photos of the events, people, buildings and statues, many of them now destroyed. To encourage dialogue, the group size is limited to 10 people.

An informative account of the years before, during & after Communism.

Dominic was a guide with a good knowledge of the subject imparted in an interesting and often funny way. He was very personable and with excellent locations used in this tour you could not but remain interested throughout the tour. The small group tour where we did not need earplugs and the guide did not need a radio microphone and a continuous raised umbrella or flag was wonderful. The highlight for us was the underground bunker and the amazing history and stories told from there. Would highly recommend this tour.

I learned a lot from this tour. The guide was from a family that had lived through communism in the Czech Republic during the 20th century. At times it felt that the information went on a little long but overall it was a really informative and important thing to learn about.

    Highly informative without being boring

The tour was fantastic. Our guide Dominic not only went through the trouble of engaging every group member in conversations to establish a more personal atmosphere and encourage questions, but he even stayed with us longer than the 3 hours announced. He was very knowledgeable on a wide variety of subjects - including local specialties (thanks, btw, I'm now officially addicted to Kofola!).
