Jerez de la Frontera: How the Andalusian Horses Dance

1. Jerez de la Frontera: How the Andalusian Horses Dance

Marvel at the equestrian skills of Spanish horses and riders at a unique "How the Andalusian Horses Dance" ballet at the Fundacion Real Escuela Andaluza Del Arte Ecuestre (Foundation Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art) in Jerez de la Frontera. Accompanied by quintessential Spanish music and 18th-century style costumes, the choreography uses movements based on classical dressage, Doma Vaquera (country-style riding), and traditional equestrian chores. Each show consists of 6-8 different choreographies, scheduled by the school according to the following repertoire: Doma Vaquera: Doma Vaquera is a Spanish riding discipline, based on traditional cattle herding. The horseman rides his horse around the arena using only one hand, first trotting and later galloping, changing the rhythm and performing pirouettes and arreones (breaking into a gallop). Classical Dressage: See different choreographies, such as “The Colts,” “Airs on Horseback,” “Pas de Deux,” “Passage and Piaffer,” “Domino on Horseback,” “Airs Above the Ground” and “Fantasy.” The horses carry out advanced exercises to classical music. Carriage Driving: Marvel as the horses demonstrate their ability to draw carriages. These horse-drawn carriages were originally used for transport, but are now relegated to sport and exhibitions, using classical harnesses and driven by coachmen who dexterously demonstrate exciting skills. Work in Hand: Admire the skill of a horse that obeys its rider even when the horseman is not in the saddle. They will carry out classical Haute École dressage exercises, such as levades, caprioles, courbettes, piaffe (between pillars), and the Spanish walk. Carrousel: See a group of horses and riders perform advanced equestrian exercises in unison, providing a fitting end to the performance.

We were a bit skeptical about using a bus tour having a large group of people. The bus picks up people from 3 different cities and then leaves to the 2 destinations. I was surprised that everyone came at the right time and the bus left from Malaga which was the last pickup right on time. We had an awesome tour guide named Kathy (Kathleen) who was giving the guidance in English and Spanish. Again our concerns were put to rest because she did her job so efficiently and never felt that we were not informed what was happening. The landscape on the way is just serene and beautiful and Kathy described the history as well as all the important aspects of what we were looking at and we felt reached Setenil quite quickly because we were never bored. After a brief introduction of the place we were given 45 minutes to see the place ourselves. We did this and were back and we left for Ronda. At Ronda, we were given a very nice tour again by Kathy for an hour and a half. Ronda is so beautiful, it wi

We had a lovely day. Ronda is so stunning and our lovely guide Carmen was well informed and the driver (not sure of his name Francisco?) was also very good. Setenil was worth the stop, what an interesting little town. The bus broke down on way back, no one’s fault as these things happen and the bus look new and we’ll maintained . Thankfully we didn’t have to wait too long for a replacement. The driver made sure he stopped at a roadside cafe so we were not stranded in the dark, on a bus with no refreshments. An inconvenience but dealt with safely and efficiently by the driver and Carmen. I felt safe and would use this company again.

It was just great and so beautiful! We could see everything, we were even lucky to see a lynx. Ramòn guided us well through the national park and did so with plenty of information. He could answer every question. Highly recommended.

Very nice and interesting day trip. Ronda was more then we expected. Our guide was really nice and had a good knowledge of all history and information on the city. Worth of spending the day!

It is a great tour and Rashid was very friendly. It would be nice to have a little time to shop for souvenirs at the end.
