Just 37km south of Katowice, Pszczyna is a quaint town centered around a market square. The Pszczyna castle, built in the 13th century, is a unique residence with over 70% original, historical furnishings from the turn of the 20th century. Its most recent renovations were during the 18th and 19th centuries when its Renaissance exterior was changed to a Baroque-classical design. The permanent exhibition includes among others an apartment of Emperor Wilhelm the Second, the grandson of the British Queen Victoria. At this residence, he invited numerous guests such as the Bulgarian Tsar Ferdinand, Austrian-Hungarian Emperor Charles I, and Enver Pasza – the dictator of Turkey.
