After pickup around 9:30 AM at Puerto Quetzal Port, take a 2-hour journey to the city of Antigua Guatemala. Visit the colorful Central Park and see locals selling hand-made products like textiles, toys, and gastronomy. From there, admire the main buildings surrounding the plaza: the Captaincy of Guatemala and City Hall. Learn about the history of the water fountain placed in the middle of the park. Then, explore the remains of the Antigua Guatemala Cathedral, a Roman Catholic church originally built around 1541. Your guide will meet you in Port Puerto Quetzal, from where you will be taken on a 2-hour transfer to Antigua. Whilst on the road you will pass by small villages and sugar cane plantations, and will also learn a bit more about Guatemala. Once in Antigua you'll visit the Central Plaza where you'll discover locals living their daily lives and selling hand-made products. There you can learn about the 4 ruling powers of Antigua, as well as its history as the capital of Central America. Later, visit the cathedral, which was destroyed several times due to earthquakes. After learning a bit about local religion you will visit an original jade factory and store to learn about this sacred Mayan stone. You'll also be able to purchase jade accessories at local prices. Meet your guide at Quetzal Port and begin your tour one hour after the cruise ship arrives at the port. Be transferred from the port to the village near the volcano in a comfortable car, which takes two hours. You do not need to have hiking experience for this activity as the volcano is very accessible and it is easy to reach the top. It takes just two hours to reach the top, which is it at 2,500 meters above the sea level. Here, the environment is created by the humid forest. See the fumaroles escaping from the open volcano on this unique experience. Descend for an hour and a half then return by car back to get the Quetzal port.
