1. From Rovaniemi: Pyhä-Luosto National Park and Visitor Center
After a pickup up at your accommodation, you’ll be taken to Pyhä-Luosto National Park, around 100km from Rovaniemi. The national park is an optimal location for nature adventures with its hills, ravines, old villages, and rivers. During a 7km hike, enjoy the best panorama views over the southernmost summits of the fell range. The trail takes you to mystical mires that are lined by a breathtaking landscapes. Part of the trail runs through varied heath forests with some altitude differences. There are stairs in the steepest sections and the duckboards make your way to the bird-watching tower easier. Take a short stop for some warm berry juice and sandwiches and, if you go on this excursion when cloudberries are ripe, allow yourself enough time to pick them for yourself. After the hike, you’ll be guided to the root of Kultakero Fell where the Pyhä-Luosto Visitor Center Naava houses a fascinating exhibition on the natural and cultural history of the national park. Get your first taste of the area's deep ravines, high fell tops, and sacred sites of the ancient forest Sámi people. The inspiring exhibition stimulating the senses while introducing you to the history of the area including its geology, nature, and cultural history. After the visit, enjoy some time to rest before returning to Rovaniemi.
