This was a wonderful trip! The boat ride was fun, the pilot had us in the wheel house to tell us about the cruise in English. Only a handful of us so I got to sit in his chair! The Canadian Park Service gave an outstanding tour of the island. Telling us history of the potato famine in Ireland, the immigrants, the quarantine station and how garments were disinfected, who the employees of the station were and much more. Our guide was wonderful and it was a most worthwhile activity when you visit Quebec!
This was a very nice day. The tour bus picked us up at our hotel at exactly the time scheduled. The drive was very comfortable, and we stopped at a very nice dairy farm midway in both directions. (The cheese curds and chocolate croissants were fabulous.) The cruise was very nice. We did see some whales, including one that raced us part way back for about 20 minutes. Our driver, Ian, was extremely personable and informative, and he drove us safely! I would recommend this tour.
Our guide was not only a wonderful tour guide, he was also an excellent driver. We had a lot of rain on the way back to Quebec City but we never felt unsafe. On the way to the excursion we had nice weather, so we got to enjoy the beautiful Quebec scenery. The captain and her crew were also excellent. We only saw one baby whale but we had so much fun on the zodiac that we would do this excursion with the company again.
I was blown away as to how many whales were there - and seeing a white whale for the first time in my life was incredible. On return we even had a whale surf alongside the ship - off the ships wake - absolutely amazing. The Naturalist who was providing commentary had never ever seen this behaviour before - we were blessed. Not only many whales on shoe but hundreds of grey fur seals. A terrific day.
I liked the tour very much, bus drive was long but the driver told some interesting details about the region and about whales. But: although the captain knew that there were people who didn't speak French most of the time he gave explanations in French, so it was difficult to understand. Bring warm clothes!
