We went with Carlos who lives in Rocinha and it was by far the best experience in Rio. There is more life, more energy in Rocinha than anywhere else in Rio. But also Carlos is the most broad-minded person we met while in Brazil and you will get a ton of information about the brazilian society and above that you can converse with him about anything. I can´t recommend this tour enough. A must while in Rio!

First, we were grouped into English groups at the meeting place and took a shuttle bus to the top of the favela for sightseeing. There are explanations in English that stop here and there. Be sure to act next to the guide! On the way, the group split into two and followed the one without a guide, which was a bit scary. . .

Really a great experience to get to know the "true" side of Rio. Our guide Carlos explained to us how life in the favela works, explained how many people live here and guided us safely through the narrow streets. Many people in the favela also greeted us with smiles. Recommended for everyone who doesn't just want to get to know the beach.
