Our guide was very knowledgeable and personable. There were only four of us and we choose the early morning private tour, expensive but worth it. Granted, after the museums were open to the public it did become crowded, but our guide expertly guided us through the crowds to the best viewing spots. With 70,000 artworks in the Vatican museums, it would be impossible to see them all. That's why a private tour with a professional is valuable. You'll see and understand the most important pieces this way.
