Full description
Travel back in time to the days of Roman gladiators, great rulers, emperors, and popes on a 3-hour skip-the-line tour of Ancient Rome. Learn about the monuments and divine statues of the imperial city, and see Roman buildings, amazing architecture, mysterious and mythological places. Start your tour at the monumental Colosseum. Built almost 2,000 years ago, the Colosseum remains a staggering feat of engineering, and one of the most iconic monuments in the history of mankind! Relive the final moments of a gladiator, and hear the roaring crowd of more than 60,000 spectators. Continue to the Roman Forum and tread the same roads as Julius Caesar, the emperor Augustus, and other great men of ancient times. Stop to reflect upon the place where Julius Caesar’s ashes were placed. Then, walk along the Sacred road where Vestal priestesses walked up to their house and their temple. See the Senate House and admire the courts where the most important figures of the ancient world spoke. Go up on the hill of the Palatine, where the most important emperors lived, starting from Augustus and walk through the great Domitian Palace. Admire the oldest botanical garden in the West, the Farnese Gardens, or Horti Farnesiani. Learn the story of the location of the Lupercal, the cave where Romulus and Remus were found by the she-wolf.

V good: A spirited, highly informative (and FUN) guided tour.

Preparation for the tour: v good as we received all necessary information regarding the meeting point very swiftly even though we booked less than 24 hours before. The meeting place was easy to find as was the guide. We waited 10 minutes for the tardies and then started promptly. The guide fast-tracked us through the security points. The tour of the ancient urban cultural monolith (and temple to cruelty as spectacle, at least from a modern point of view) was highly informative and the guide (Helena if I recall well) was authoritative and charming. A highlight of the Roman experience. Let your imagination run with the guide and you will be taken to the cross-over point when extreme barbarity started to be boiled down and gradually reduced to an extremely rich and culturally supreme civilisation. Entrancing. The walk from The Colloseum to the Pantheon was a great time to see old ruins and Mussolini's 'work'. The Pantheon is exquisitely stunning and once again Helena very helpful.

Fascinating tour with very knowledgeable guide.

The tour was a great way to get an in depth view of the ancient parts of Rome. The group size was very small (only 4 people) and this meant the guide could provide a very personal tour, and was able to give a very detailed insight into the Colosseum and Forum from her background as an archaeologist.

This tour is absolutely fabulous. The guide we had was very knowledgeable and made it very enjoyable for all concerned. The tour was done in easy stages, so if you are not super fit, you can still enjoy the tour. I am 64 and not fit and I walked the tour. There are places to sit while the guide talks if you look. There is a lift up in the Colosseum, but not to come down on this tour. There is a special disability tour circuit for those that require no stairs. I managed the stairs.
