Full description
Make the most of your visit to Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari with a guided walk through the Southern Enclosure. Located a 1-hour drive from Rotorua, discover the ancient feel of an old-growth, native forest protected from introduced pests by the world’s longest multi-species predator-proof fence.
Your passionate and knowledgeable guide will share the stories of Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari with you as you explore the beautiful walking trails of Te Tūī a Tāne, the Southern Enclosure. Tours have a limited number of participants so as to ensure you receive personal attention and have the opportunity to ask questions.
Take in the majesty of the indigenous forest and try to spot the numerous bird species that call the maunga, or mountain, their home. Spend time in the clearing where the kākā parrots like to hang out and take an optional climb up the viewing tower for a unique perspective of the forest canopy from above.
