This Northern Lights hunting tour by snowmobile takes you deep into the wonderful winter landscape of the Arctic Circle. Your guide will lead you on a unique adventure through nature where only the moonlight, stars, and snowmobile lights illuminate the way.   In the middle of the wilderness, stop to observe the sky. Be picked up at your accommodation and start the journey to Ranua Wildlife Park. The 1-hour drive will take you through Lapland, where you’ll be able to spot wildlife along the way. It’s not unusual to see reindeer or the gigantic moose along the road. As you head to your destination, your guide will answer any questions that you may have about Finland and Lapland to the best of their knowledge. At the park, follow the 2.5 km long wooden boardwalks through the forest and spot different arctic animals in one place. This is a rare opportunity to meet the local animals that reside in Lapland and other parts of the Arctic. As you walk around the park, your guide will share with you their knowledge of the animals and other aspects of life in Lapland. You’ll spot a variety of animals in the Ranua Wildlife Park. Keep an eye out for polar bears, predatory birds, owls, wild boars, musk oxen, otters, arctic foxes, wolves, wild reindeer, wolverines, and moose. When they’re not hibernating in the wintertime, you might even see brown bears. At the end of the tour, you will enjoy a tasty buffet lunch at the restaurant before returning to Rovaniemi.

Head about 30 to 50 kilometers into the mystical forest, away from the light pollution of the city.  Your tour guide will explain how the Northern Lights are formed and tell ancient tales from the local Sami and Lappish cultures. The photographer can provide guidance in setting up the best shooting angles, shooting screen, camera settings, and more.  To keep you going, sit down for a campfire BBQ and grill some local favorites and delicacies of reindeer sausage and blueberry tea. Following a pickup from your hotel in Rovaniemi, depart to Vikaköngäs at the southern end of the village of Vikajärvi a short distance from the city. At the Vaattunkivaara Nature Trail, part of the Arctic Circle Hiking Area, your professional guide will lead you to the most interesting natural sites in the area.  Feel the beauty of Lappish forests and lakes during a short walk of around 1-2km. During the hike, you’ll travel through natural forests and rocky gorges surrounded by beautiful lakes and rivers. Your guide will tell you more about the hiking area with its huge variety of long and short distance trails, located next to urban habitation.  Along the way, stop to enjoy a BBQ with blueberry juice and sausages in a traditional kota hut with stunning views of the Lappish nature all around. At the conclusion of your hike and BBQ, return to Rovaniemi for a drop-off back at your hotel.

Northern Lights are always unpredictable and there is no guarantee that they will be found every night. However, this tour gives you the best possible chance to experience and photograph these mystical wonders of the Arctic area. During the night you are a member of an exclusive team led by a professional photography guide. Simply put, you will join real aurora hunters who rely on the following to succeed in their mission: • background research into local weather and Aurora forecasts • live information feed coming directly into the minivan •local knowledge of all the best viewing spots •willingness to go the extra mile, or a hundred miles, to find the aurora During the night, you will normally visit two to three different locations, which are always chosen according to local weather conditions and photograph opportunities. This means that if the sky is clear and there is a possibility to see the aurora 100 kilometers away, we will take the chance and drive you there. Altogether there are over 50 locations from which to choose the best ones each night. 

Drive away from the city to the place with the highest chance of seeing the Northern Lights. Find a warm spot to set up the fire and sit and wait for the show. Benefit from knowing that the more time you spend outside, the greater the chance of you seeing the lights. Usually, you can view the Aurora in the middle of a huge frozen lake or river.  Embark on an experience visiting up to 3 locations to give you the best chance of seeing the lights. Huddle around the fire with your guide, who will also tell you all about traditional animals and customs. 

Discover Korouoma, a 30km-long and 130m-deep canyon located south-east of Rovaniemi which offers breathtaking scenery all year round. In Winter, the waterfalls turn into fantastic ice formations that are well-known for ice-climbing.  First, get picked up by your guide from your accommodation in Rovaniemi and set off for the Korouoma Canyon nature reserve. Start the tour with a gentle hike through the park, admiring spectacular scenery including cliffs, rapids, and waterfalls. Keep your eyes for the array of rare species that call the area home. Snowshoes are optional but may be useful if you need more confidence when hiking down the canyon or just want to enjoy some deep snow walks. Then, have the chance to observe some of the most spectacular frozen waterfalls in Europe and enjoy the beauty of the snowy nature. Next, savor a typical Finnish lunch snack around an open-fire to keep you warm. Watch as your guide shows you their fire-making skills. At the end of the 6-hour excursion, return to Rovaniemi where you will be dropped off at your hotel by around 4 PM.

Your special morning shuttle will depart from your hotel and head to Posio’s virgin forest area, 160 kilometers from Rovaniemi. Korouoma is a 1-million year old fracture valley in the bedrock, and at the center of the valley it forms a magnificent gorge that drops over 100 meters below its surrounding terrain. Thick snow accumulates in the trees of the forest making the forest appear completely dreamy and blurred. Amazing photos of the ice and snow can be taken absolutely everywhere. Professional guides will escort you into the forest. In the middle of your hike, your guide will make a bonfire for you and you can experience the traditional cuisine of the Arctic Circle. Korouoma is known for its magnificent frozen waterfalls that cover the tall cliffs in the winter. There are altogether 14 frozen waterfalls along the Korouoma hiking trail. Korouma is hands-down the best destination for ice climbing in Finland!

In the winter time, enjoy views of huge snow drifts, white trails, and frozen trees. You will learn about the footprints that you find in the snow. It’s a shame the bears will be sleeping as they have a very impressive paw print. But not to worry as you still have the chance of passing tracks made by wolves, lynx, wolverines, moose, reindeer, and weasels. During the summer your guide will teach you about the nature that surrounds you. The aim of this tour is to show you wild and beautiful forests that look as if they are straight out of a fairytale. Your guide will help you to learn how to appreciate these places.  On every tour, your guide will show you how to build and light a fire without the use of matches. You will learn what to look for in the forests that allow you to make fire easily at any time without damaging any vegetation.
