There is no better way to explore untouched parts of Arctic nature than ski trekking. Your professional guide takes you away from Rovaniemi, straight into the Taiga forest where you get the chance to explore some of the breathtaking scenery of Lapland using back-country skis. Trekking skiing, also called back-country skiing or off-piste skiing, is a great way to explore remote areas of Lapland covered in deep snow. Unlike alpine skiing and cross-country skiing which are practised on groomed trails, back-country skiing allows for a more adventurous trip through hilly terrains, forests, and lakes. As the skis are equipped with skin, they allow you to go both uphill and downhill without excessive speed. Like snowshoeing, it does not require much practice to get used to the gears and to the techniques to slide on deep snow. This makes it very comfortable and easy to use, even for beginners. Your guide chooses a location that best fits the level and the needs of the group, before providing you with safety instructions and teaching you some techniques on how to use the skis on fresh snow. Refreshments and a typical Finnish barbecue snack will be provided halfway, as your guide lights a fire to keep you warm. This is a great moment for you to enjoy the splendid viewpoints and learn more about both Arctic nature and Lapland in general. After your 3-hour experience, your guide returns you to your tour starting point in Rovaniemi.

Come to experience lapland´s wilderness on skis, in a small group ( max. 4 pers.), guided by a certified wilderness guide. We´ll drive to a remote area, half an hour away from Rovaniemi,far from towns and marked trails; there we´ll put the skis on and go through the base techniques of trekking-skis; then we´ll start to ski through snowy forests, frozen lakes and swamps. We´ll enjoy the landscape, take pictures and I will tell about local nature, wildlife and animal footprints in the snow. We´ll go take a break in our private kota, traditional lappish tent, where we´ll grill a snack on the fire, drink something warm and relax sitting on reindeer skins in front of a fire. The place is selected to offer you beautiful landscapes, peace of nature and a real wilderness experience. Previous experience with the skis is not required, as they are easy to use and the terrain mostly flat. The trek difficulty will be adjusted by the guide, based on the physical condition of the clients.

After being picked up at your hotel in the morning, begin your winter cross country ski adventure. Climb aboard a minivan and be driven into the local nature reserves of Ounasvaara. Move through the Arctic forest on a pair of skis with the winter sun shining on your face. Putting one ski before the other, glide through the snowy tracks in a flowing motion. Discover magical and beautiful winter forest, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife tracks of animals as you glide soundlessly through the forest.

On your skiing adventure, you will use skis that enable you to get off the known tracks, into the deep snow. The specialist skis represent the newest innovation in Finnish wilderness exploration. Owing to their composition and skin-based material, they provide unlimited access to the endless snowy hinterlands of Lapland. Expect some unforgettable landscapes and opportunities for photography. Your journey starts from Rovaniemi, where you get on a minivan and drive to a hidden location in the forest. After skiing and photographing for a while, stop at a wooden shelter to grill sausages over an open fire. The tour is always guided by a professional photographer who will share their knowledge in landscape and nature photography, so you can get the photos you desire. 

This tour is suitable for beginners and experienced skiers and freeriders. The season at Pello works from January to April. The resort maintains a variety of routes, including the gentle and soft slopes for beginners. There are many downhill skiing options in the River Tornio Valley that are suited for all levels of ability. The slopes of Ritavaara are ideal for beginners and families with small children but also for advanced skiers. You will be provided with a day ski-pass with access to all slopes. Pello has its own special atmosphere. The developed infrastructure of ropeways and long duration of the winter season will let skiers of any level enjoy the amazing slopes. The winter sports center is located about 7 km out of Pello in the direction of Rovaniemi. Pello is home to five downhill slopes ranging from 800 to 1,000 meters in length. The vertical drop of these slopes is about 120 meters. The center also includes the Snowpark™ and a slope suitable for children. Equipment is included. The slopes observe a low-temperature limit of -20 °C.
