From our bike bar and shop Bicycle House, located just in front of the National Archaeological Museum (MANN), after a short briefing, your journey starts with castle Maschio Angioino Piazza Plebiscito with the Royal Palace and the San Carlo theater on the way. The tour will continue along the seaside with Vesuvius, the Sorrento peninsula and the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida in the background.
A light, steady climb takes us on the hill of Posillipo, a panoramic oasis so close and yet far from the city, dear to poets and nobles, with its villas overlooking the sea, the bold road that bypasses caves and gullies and crosses with the winding down that lead the former agricultural villages of the hill, to the green sea sailed by the fishing boats. Here, after a thrilling downhill, you 'll reach the Pausilypon park, where the walking visit of the archaeological and environmental area of the first century B.C. will expect you.
After the underground path of Seiano Grotto (a 770 meter long tunnel built by Romans), your guide will explain the history, the excavation techniques and the various events that have seen the history of the cave over the centuries. At the other end of the cave, you will be able to admire the remains of the astonishing II thousands years old Villa of Vedio Pollione and the panoramic view point overlooking the charming bay of Trentaremi. Professional guides from the CSI Gaiola will lead us through the beauties of the site.
On our way back we will stop at the North Jetty in the Pozzuoli bay, to enjoy the view “from the sea” of Campi Flegrei area. Unforgettable is the sensation of touching the nearby tiny island of Nisida and having the impressive bulk of Ischia island in the same picture. More details about the history of the former industrial area (steel plant) and the undergoing redevelopment projects are provided by the guide.
Then we'll ride back to the meeting point, Bicycle House, on the cycle path.
