Full description

Embark on a half-day trip to Hallstatt from Salzburg. Take a scenic drive past Lake Fuschl with insightful commentary from your guide on board. Enjoy free time in Hallstatt to explore at your own pace.

Depart from Salzburg and traverse Austria's lake district in an air-conditioned bus. Pass Lake Fuschl and stop for photos of St. Gilgen, Lake Wolfgang, and the surrounding mountains of the Salzkammergut. Afterward, continue your trip along Lake Wolfgang and soak up the views of this UNESCO World Heritage landscape. Enjoy insightful commentary about the region from your onboard guide.

Pass through a number of charming villages on your drive to Hallstatt. Once you arrive in Hallstatt, have 2.5 hours of free time to explore this fairytale city and its surroundings. You can visit the ossuary or “bone-house”, and see the 1000 painted human skulls inside. Opt for a funicular ride to the entrance of the world’s oldest salt mine and enjoy the breathtaking views from an observation platform.

Walk along the lake and marvel at how the houses above you seem to cling to the mountainside. After your free time, board the bus for your return journey.

This time, pass through the Rußbach valley and the towns of Gosau and Abtenau which are famous for their stunning views of the Dachstein mountain range.

The best tour of my trip so far! Hallstatt is so, so beautiful and our guide, Richard, was fantastic- friendly, helpful and very informative. He sorted our tickets for the skywalk and even came up to each of the visitors on the bus to find out more about us- such a lovely man who really made the trip special!

Trip overall is great, could have been better if added more 30 mins to 60 mins to the trip to enjoy more the lakes on the road or stay more time in Hallstatt. One comment also, the gathering point in salzburg can be misleading cause there are two tours offices that are so close, need to specify the exact place more accurately.

The tour was well done and gave us 2.5 hours of free time in Hallstatt. The road to get there has nice views and although the village is extremely touristy it is still worth the trip for the beautiful scenery. Sitting on the left side in the bus offers the best views. The bus was comfortable and the guide was interesting, although he gave us misleading information on the timing. He sells tickets for the funicular to the observation platform directly in the bus, at a small discount (and he probably gets a commission), and said the activity would take 30 minutes to go up and down, and that walking through the village takes 15 minutes. It is actually double those times. On a normal day, the funicular alone took one hour with the wait just to go up and down, which took half our time there.
