Every year from the middle of January until the end of March you are able to see Humpback Whales in Samana. Samana is considered one of the best places in the world for humpback whale watching. These beautiful and giant marine mammals, come out regularly to the surface to breathe, remain in apnea for about twenty minutes, but can remain underwater for up to forty minutes. Whales come to Samana to give birth due to their whalebone when born, only having a very thin layer of fat so cannot withstand the cold waters. At birth, the calf measures between three and a half and five meters and weighs a ton. After being collected from your hotel in Puerto Plata, Sosua or Cabarete, make your way to Samana and enjoy the amazing views of the lovely Dominican landscapes. We took a minibus to the port of Miches, then a boat to Bacardi Island (drinks in the boat) where we had 1h of free time (nothing is included on the island so take the bottles of water offered in the boat). Then we took the boat back to Samana and then a safari bus to the Ranch where we had lunch (it was very good and clean). We then did the horseback ride to the waterfall (each horse is pulled by a local who is only paid with tips) after the ride you have to walk 5/10 min to the waterfall and the road is difficult (slippery stairs, mud, etc.). Then we have some free time at the magnificent waterfall (don't delay too long because afterwards you have to go up all the stairs then take the horses back for the return. Then a short break and we take the opposite route: safari truck / boat / minibus to hotel Great day out to see a different area but strenuous (6am to 9pm) not for everyone!

Was really a great trip! We were lucky that we got our own guide, because the other people had also booked the national park. We wanted to snorkel (we got snorkeling gear from the guide on land & he took fish food with us) and got a tour for exactly that and even went to dive sites with the small boat before we went to the beautiful Bacardi island Cayo Levantado to relax. The food was super rich and we even got a Virgin Colada in a pineapple as a gift. We were also allowed to decide for ourselves when we wanted to go back and all in all we felt very comfortable and had a great day at the beach!

Everything super well organized. There was a tropical storm on the scheduled date and they rearranged everything perfectly for another day. Friendly, efficient ... The theme of the horseback excursion is a bit seedy: there are at least 200 horses (really) and the waterfall is beautiful but there are so many people that it becomes horrible. I recommend reef jet to get around the island as it is fast and cheap.

Pretty unique your experience all the way around. From the Narcos style plane flight to the beauty of the waterfall, and with all the little touches that made this tour what it was, I’d highly recommend. Nanó did a great job.

Had a great time! Some friends who joined didn’t even snorkel but enjoyed the overall vibe of the boat ride.
