Full description
Immerse yourself in the history and beauty of San Giorgio Maggiore Island with an audio-guided tour of 2 of the island's most breathtaking landmarks, the Vatican Chapels and Borges Labyrinth. Meet your tour leader and get kitted out with your audioguide before heading to your first stop, the Borges Labyrinth. Here, enter the surreal world of writer and poet Jorge Luis Borges. Make your way to the center of the 1-kilometer long path, made with 3200 boxwood plants, and learn more about the path's most emblematic symbols with the help of your audioguide. Next, stroll through the woods of the Vatican Chapels and admire the architecture of 10 chapels designed by internationally-renowned architects. Listen to original music composed by Antonio Fresa as you soak up the atmosphere of the location. Finish the visit with the tour of the Teatro Verde, the most beautiful theater in the world, as actress Katharine Hepburn defined it in the 1950s. Built starting in 1952 on a project by the architects Luigi Vietti and Angelo Scattolin, it is an amphitheater with steps of white Vicenza stone interspersed with boxwood backs. Building this theater was a huge undertaking, which required six hundred and forty working days and one hundred and sixty-six workers at work every day. The construction of the grandiose stage which covers an area of 1,400 square meters was very difficult. The orchestra pit could accommodate up to 150 performers.

We really enjoyed visiting the chapels and the labyrinth. You can get information via audio guide. We would have liked to see the monastery courtyards, but unfortunately that wasn't possible because an exhibition was being prepared. You can only stay in the garden with a guide, no free disposal.
