Learn about the famous market at dusk, lit only by candles. Head up the mountain to Salcoatitán, located at a little over 3,412 feet (1,040 meters). This was the place where the first coffee plantations in the country were planted in the 1860s. The area is also recognized by the number of craft shops. I have NEVER had a tour guide as wonderful, as competent and as thoroughly knowledgeable as Marbel. He knows just about everything about Salvadorean history, culture, foods, wines, religions and icons, prominent figures and natural phenomena. It made the tours so very special in that I was able to fully appreciate everything I was experiencing because of Marbel’s dedication and attention to detail. The fact that he did all of this on Day One WHILE DRVING in the WORST TRAFFIC I have experienced in years- is nothing short of miraculous!

My guide suggested a route through the mountain and it was really beautiful. There are not many tourists in the country so there is flexibility so the guide / company is willing to organize the route with content that suits you. The next day I went on another tour with the same guide so he arranged for me to visit an eco indigo farm. It was a good experience as I work with textile printing.

A day of variety, color and new experiences!

We stopped for a lesson in flora and fauna on the way to our first village, I saw a life bird and learned a lot about trees and plants in El Salvador. We 4 villages we visited were each different, and special - one with woodworked furniture, one with wonderful colorful murals on the walls of the buildings, one with a market of local fruits and vegetables, and one with a Sunday fair, good food in the open air, and a little sightseeing train! Our guide, Eduardo, knew what souvenirs we were looking for, and he took us to the right shops to get them. A wonderful day!
