The city of Sarajevo represents the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is a place where different cultures meet and makes Sarajevo a unique multicultural center. It is also a city where great empires ruled and left marks all over the country like the Ottoman Empire, Austria-Hungarian Empire, Communist Yugoslavia, and the modern period of independence. Is there a better example of a multi-confessional society than four religious temples within a 100 meter radius? The sounds and prayers one can hear at the same time represent a feeling which cannot be described but has to be experienced. The scent of authentic coffee, the smell of a traditional kitchen, the historical appearance of the old part of the town, the friendly citizens, and the soul of the city itself will definitely guarantee an excellent vacation. Can you imagine that Sarajevo was the center of the world in 1984? It was the year of 14th Winter Olympic Games. Only eight years later, Sarajevo was a war field, with the longest siege in modern history.

Lukomir is located just 42 kilometers away from Sarajevo and represents the highest settled village in Bosnia and Herzegovina and one of the main Bosnian tourist attractions. The stone houses with wooden roofs and women still wearing traditional clothes are main characteristics of local life from April until December when the village is reachable. Settled at the height of 1,495 meters on the top of Bjelasnica Mountain, Lukomir has stayed out of human touch and represents the most traditional nomadic lifestyle. Indeed, access to the village is impossible from the first snows in December until late April and sometimes even later, except by skis or on foot. Lukomir is known for its traditional attire and the women still wear the hand-knitted costumes that have been worn for centuries. Domestic food such as pie, domestic donuts, traditional Bosnian coffee and admirable sightseeing are definitely the kind of experience you do not want to miss. Let’s make one more experience together. From there, you can do some magnificent hiking in the area along the ridge of the Rakitnica Canyon, which drops 800 meters down below.

The XIV Olympic Winter Games were held in Sarajevo from February 8th to 19th, 1984. It was the first Winter Olympics to be held in a communist country. The tour will take you to see the place where opening ceremony took place and discover what the games meant for people of Sarajevo and how they prepared for it. You will visit three breathtaking mountains around the city that hosted the Olympics, some of which are still in ruins from the war. At the end visit the Olympic Museum where we proudly keep the memory of one of the most successful Winter Olympics of the 20th century alive.

The end of 15th century in Europe was the end of peaceful life for some of the people. After the fall of Granada in 1492, began the persecution of Jews from Spain and Portugal. Find out how in the 16th century the Sarajevans developed new neighbours – the Sephardim Jews and what was the life looked like in the Sijavus Pasha’s Quarter. Discover what they used to do, what songs they sang and which specialities they used to prepare. You'll also learn about the fascinating Ladino language. On this tour, you can hear about all of this. The tour will tell you the story of the Jewish Community in Sarajevo, the story of Sephardim and Ashkenazim Jews, their life, happiness, suffering, persecution, place of their eternal resting and place of struggle with death and suffering.

Following this we will go along the magical street which had the status of a “carsija”, meaning bazaar, during the Gazi Husrev Beg in 1521, when over 60 shops had been built there. One more interesting fact is that Robert De Niro, during his visit to this shop, has bought a pair of these unique shoes for himself We will continue our tour in the spirit of tradition - you will have the opportunity to hear more about how Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of the few European countries that has its own Bosnian carpet - as a special form of applied, folk and traditional art. The tour will continue in the street named after the famous writer - Safet Beg Bašagić, who wrote some of his major works and is considered to be one of the founders of the Bosnian literature. This delicious drink is also a trademark of this patisserie. Following in the footsteps of old crafts - on our tour you will have the opportunity to visit one of the three wonderful shops in the Balkans - where coffee grinders are still handmade, for over 120 years a famous Sarajevo family nurtures this handmade art and keeps it from oblivion. The first mentions of the potter's trade in Sarajevo date back to 1489, and today the street is in the same place as it was in the 16th century, when it was built, in which the masters of this craft have been creating copper art for centuries. You can eat it at any time of the day, including breakfast. You will also have the opportunity to meet the last brush craftsman in Sarajevo - during our visit you will see how brushes are handmade today, and according to this craftsman - handmade brushes can be used for up to half a century. Further along, we will also visit a modern concept store with a showcase of local designers and artists, which will surely be an attraction. During this tour you will also visit one of the most famous restaurants in the city. Immerse yourself in the world of delicious cheeses, unforgettable tastes of cured and smoked meat and other products prepared by recipes that are centuries old. Last but not least, we will visit one of the oldest pipe shops in Sarajevo - we will try the most delicious dishes from the owners - and sudzukice in this local restaurant were named the best sudzuk by the Sarajevo food dictionary in 2019. We will end the tour with the most delicious handmade balkava - the queen of all baklava and of course served with the true delight - Bosnian coffee. After the tour, you will surely be richer with your experience of Sarajevo through the eyes of native citizens.

And that’s exactly what we want to give you with this food tour – a walk through the history and mentality of Sarajevo, filled with plenty of typical Bosnian specialities. Probably no other Sarajevo neighborhood has such a turbulent history as Grbavica, which was not only shelled but occupied by enemy troops during the siege of the city. Very slowly, the inhabitants rebuilt their Grbavica after 1996 – now it is a vibrant neighborhood with many restaurants and cafés and small green oasis hidden among socialist architecture.
