Full description
Let’s start our hike at the cathedral in the city center – the typical meet-up spot for locals. Before we leave for the Mahalas, we can tell you the first exciting facts about this city, the Jerusalem of the Balkans. These typical Sarajevo neighbourhoods, with their residential buildings clinging to the surrounding mountains and telling exciting stories of multiculturalism, diversity, and solidarity! So our urban hike takes us through these neighbourhoods, to the outskirts, where people grow their herbs and vegetables in their own vegetable gardens, and up to Café 105, a place very important to Sarajevo’s history. There, we enjoy a traditional Bosnian beverage, share our impressions of the first part of our hike, and take photos. Because the view of Sarajevo from up there is unrivalled! We resume our descent, but not before stopping for a few more great views of Sarajevo and the surrounding villages – and who knows, maybe we’ll even see a few sheep or goats on the way back? We finish our hike at the Mahala Sedrenik with a traditional Bosnian meal and rakija tasting – if you want! The lunch is optional. Afterwards, a taxi will take you back to your accommodation or you can hike back down to the cathedral with your guide.
