Explore the former palace of the Moorish kings of Muslim Spain on a guided tour of the Alcázar of Seville. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, the complex is highly regarded for its cultural and harmonic elements. Investigate these unique surroundings through the story of the legendary 11th-century monarch Muhammad ibn Abbad al-Mu'tamid and some of the characters that illuminated Spain in the early 19th century.
The oldest European royal palace still in use, the Alcázar of Seville was first built by the Almohades with resplendent Islamic motifs. Subsequent occupants added elements from the Baroque, Renaissance and other eras. Enter via the imposing Puerta del León (Lion Gate) and journey through a compound of several palaces, royal chambers, courtyards and chapels.
