Early in the night, you will be met by your guide, a historian, at Sintra's Historic Centre to being your night walk where you have the unique opportunity of hearing the true background of mysticism involving Sintra beginnings, through the words of Sintra's foremost history researcher, with the additional advantage of visiting a tourist spot like Sintra away from the usual crowds. After being introduced to what legends and myths are and their impact in the village through time, you'll begin your way across the mountain (by road and having very short trails) in the dark of the night. With the stars hanging above you, the nocturnal landscape will be broken by the sight of a few monuments in the distance including the National Palace, and Pena Palace. You will also see some peculiar sites whose pasts and what they enclose would elude a regular guide. Your guide will tell you about these various sites and you will learn how they impacted the traditions and way of thinking of the local people - especially the ancient ones. From the highest parts of the mountain, the silence you will find uncommon, you'll hear about some of the strange memoirs that history left in the documents and manuscripts from past centuries.

You will walk around the edge of the mountain, between old parts of the village and the hills, with a few stops along the way, where you will see in the distance some monuments including the old Royal Palace, Pena Palace, Sintra's Castle (Moorish Castle), amongst others landmarks, and you'll hear about how they were in the past, as well as some unusual historical tales conveyed to you by a historian. The second part of the walk will take you on a short excursion in the dark of the mountain. The terrain will be mostly regular, with the exception of some parts in which a few steps will require climbing. Nothing extraordinary for people with no mobility impairments. Overall, the effort implied in the whole night walk is equivalent to a whole afternoon strolling in a touristic place. This second part will include some stops when you'll hear about some of Sintra's most curious and least known intriguing stories.  In this night walk in Sintra, prepare yourself to hear about what some figures of the past have dreamt here, how their dreams have spawned monuments, what sound and sight they experienced in the Mountains and in the shore, and what fears arose from what they heard in the night. Interior access to the monuments is not included. Though you will know very discreet monuments unknown even to the Portuguese. Needless to say you may feel at will to ask any question you may have related to Sintra's History. You will end your night walk at Sintra's Historic Centre, where you'll then have the opportunity to experience its nocturnal tranquility.

In 1866 Hans Christian Andersen travelled to Portugal. After a few months in Lisbon and Setúbal, he reached Sintra. Learn about what the Danish writer saw and did here on this tour. Your guide is an historian who has studied the memories of Andersen in Sintra, as well as the history of Sintra in the 19th Century. You will start your walking tour in Sintra's historic centre and from there you will pass through a number of places - in the Village and around it - where Hans Christian Andersen also walked, as well as significant spots, untraceable nowadays, due to the man-made development that followed Andersen's time in Sintra. The walking tour will have a duration of around 3 and a half hours (regular terrain) and the effort implied is equivalent to spending a whole afternoon strolling around touristic areas, with ups and downs.

Two hours before sunset (please check sunset time), you will be picked up by car at Sintra's train station. On your way to where this evening walk will start you'll be able to see in the distance Sintra's Castle, Pena Palace, and the forest gradually beginning to surround you. Once you have  arrived in the western part of Sintra's Mountains, your walk will begin. The walk will be about 5 kilometers, spanning around 4 hours, on regular and soft irregular terrain. The effort implied is equivalent to spending a whole afternoon strolling around Sintra, with its various ups and downs. You'll travel under the black arc of the night sky, dotted with a thousand stars, to discover a hidden past that's almost impossible to imagine. Watch the sun falling over the Atlantic Ocean. After sunset you will enter the forest and learn about the wolves, wild boars, and friars who once roamed these paths. Your historian guide will tell you about the religious orders and unusual stories from the area's history.
