This hike was amazing. Driving was the best option; we were able to make stops on the way to see various waterfalls and take some good pictures. We went in March and the road conditions were alright to drive in from Reykjavik, but we left a little earlier to get there good just in case weather or roads were bad. The drive back was blizardy. But- worth the trip! The glaciers were amazing and hiking around is great. You do not need to be a professional, anyone could go. Maria, our guide was amazing; she was so passionate about her work and we really enjoyed being with her. She explained much!

My family of 4 did the glacier hike during our tour of the south coast. The address that was provided to us in the email confirmation was NOT the correct meeting spot. It said to meet in a parking lot next to some cafe. When get arrived at the parking lot where this cafe was supposed to be, it wasn't there. There was a small tour business there and we spoke to a woman who said that the cafe went out of business years ago. We called the number on the confirmation email several times for help finding the right spot (even getting the GPS coordinates) and it kept taking us to this parking lot. It was very frustrating. We drove around for 30 min. Eventually found it. The tour guide, Maria, was so friendly and allowed us to go on the tour even though we were very late. The tour itself was underwhelming. Incredible scenery but it didn't take us very far on the glacier. Just wish we had spent more time on it. Think we were on it for maybe 30 min. Maybe there's a longer tour they offer.

Breathtaking Glacier Hike

One of the best things we did during our Iceland visit. Slick set up to get fitted with crampons, ice axe & helmet. 12 people in our group with Maria our guide. She was excellent... looked after our 12 yr is daughter brilliantly and made the 3 hrs great fun as well as teaching us about the glacier. Easy walk, not strenuous at all. Beautiful views. Ice is white grey & black from volcanic ash. Toilets in car park. Street food van there as well serving lovely lamb soup, fish & chips or hot dogs.
