The guide Alex went out of his way to engage with the guests and share his in-depth knowledge with delightful Bulgarian hospitality. The monastery is breathtaking and the church truly inspiring. A must see and do in a day trip from Sofia. Highly recommend.

We had a fantastic day at Boyana and Rila Monastery. Alex, our guide, was really informative and friendly and entertained us with stories about the history of the country and the places we visited. We had a delicious lunch at a small, family-owned restaurant and a brief visit to a winery to finish the day off. Excellent!

We were taken for this tour by Ivan who shared his passion for Bulgarian history and culture with us all day. When we hadn't chosen the audioguide or any extra option he gave us a full guided tour of both sites, including inside Rila's museum which was a bless as there's isn't much information provided on the sites. We also loved to have been given the choice of eating in a restautant we had stopped on our way or stay extra time in the monastry and still being picked up after. We chose the restaurant and its warm fireplace because it was very cold but you also have restaurants just behind the monastry with terraces facing the sun at this time if you prefer. Rila's monastry is a pure treasure with all its detailed paintings and Boyana is definitely a must see too, specially as you would never guess its beauty from outside.
