South Coast Classic: Full-Day Tour from Reykjavik

1. South Coast Classic: Full-Day Tour from Reykjavik

On this full-day tour, you’ll follow the coastline from Reykjavík into the volcanic and glaciated wonderland that is Iceland's south coast. Walk behind the thundering veil of spray at the Seljalandsfoss waterfall and take in the incredible views from the top of the Skógafoss waterfall. Your tour begins with a drive through lava fields, passing by the active Hengill volcano, and then down to rich coastal farmlands. On clear days you’ll be able to see the Hekla volcano, and in the distance the glacier-capped Eyjafjallajökull volcano rises majestically above the coastal mountains. Just a few kilometers off the coastline and easily visible are the volcanic Westman Islands, an archipelago of around 15 small islands, only one of which is inhabited. Stop at the Sólheimajökull glacier, which is every photographer’s dream. Next on the itinerary is the Reynisfjara black sand beach. See the powerful Atlantic waves crashing on the black sands, the jagged basalt sea stacks and the huge basalt-column cave. Next you’ll head to the coastal village of Vik, the southernmost village in Iceland, located on the island’s main ring road. Despite its small size (291 inhabitants), it is the largest settlement for 70 kilometers. On your way back to Reykjavík, you’ll stop by the powerful Skógafoss waterfall for a short walk up a flight of steps to admire one of Iceland´s most scenic views. The view takes in glaciers, volcanoes and black sandy beaches. The last stop is at the 60-meter-high Seljalandsfoss waterfall, best known for the hidden pathway behind and around it.

Reykjavik: Golden Circle Bus Tour w/ optional Blue Lagoon

2. Reykjavik: Golden Circle Bus Tour w/ optional Blue Lagoon

Explore the natural treasures of Iceland on a full-day bus tour of the Golden circle. See the Gullfoss Waterfall and explore Þingvellir National Park. Travel in comfort and enjoy audio commentary on the bus. Arrive at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and birthplace of the oldest existing parliament in the world. This is also the site where the tectonic plates of America and Eurasia have pulled apart, creating a rift valley on the shores of Iceland’s largest lake. Visit the Geysir Hot Springs, home to the original geyser and Iceland’s most iconic natural attraction. Here, the ground trembles and steaming hot water spouts spectacularly skyward from the famous Strokkur Geyser every few minutes. Take a leisurely walk down to Gullfoss Waterfall, an awesome sight to behold. A powerful glacial river cascades down 2 levels for 32 meters with a thunderous roar into a narrow canyon. Board a new bus equipped with WiFi and connected computer tablets at each seat. On the tablet, you’ll be able to use the GPS-sensitive audio guide (available in several languages) to get to know about Iceland and the places you visit on the tour. There will be a host on board, happy to answer any questions you might have about the country. Each seat is equipped with a USB charger.

From Reykjavik: Golden Circle and Northern Lights

3. From Reykjavik: Golden Circle and Northern Lights

Experience the dramatic scenery and natural phenomena of Iceland on a 2-part combination tour, starting with a morning tour of the legendary "Golden Circle." Depart Reykjavik to visit Iceland's 3 iconic natural treasures, including the Þingvellir National Park and Gullfoss Waterfall. Discover where the earth's North American and Eurasian plates pulled apart at Geysir and watch the geothermal waters and steam spout skywards from the geyser. Admire the cascades of Gullfoss Waterfall, where a glacial river thunders 32 meters into a canyon. Then, take a 3 to 6-hour break and grab dinner before your evening Northern Lights tour. When night falls, search for the elusive Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) in the Icelandic wilderness, depending on the weather forecast and visibility conditions. Only visible during the winter months, the spectacular phenomenon is one of Iceland's biggest and most magical draws.

What people are saying about Southern Region, Iceland

This tour was taken from good to great because of our guide, Karen. I got picked up at 8:30 and you don’t get to the first stop, black sand beach until 12 - so it feels quite long to get there - we had to shuttle other people to other activities and we stopped off at a petrol station for 30 mins which felt unnecessary. The stops; black sand, Vic and 2 waterfalls were great. At the second waterfall make sure you go to find the third ‘secret waterfall’. Coach was comfortable, no USB charging and it’s a long day with lots of pics so take portable charger. This trip is good value for money

Fantastic trip that gives you a real flavour of Iceland. Our guide Bo was very knowledgeable. He gave just the right amount of information, informative without being a lecture. Lunch stop was good with a choice of 4 different places to eat and at a reasonable price. I liked that this a small coach with Reykjavik Sightseeing so not too many people.

Tour was great, definitely recommend. I don't remember tour guy's name on this day, but "Gary" was amazing. I had great time, trip was great, plus I learned few new interesting things about Iceland. Thank you "Gary"^^!

The South Coast Classic: Full-Day Tour from Reykjavik was hugely enjoyable as we were lucky enough to get amazing weather, breathtaking views/scenery and multiple rainbow-filled waterfalls.

The drive was smooth and amazing. Yoav the guide, kept us engaged throughout the trip. Overall it's good and I will recommend
