New Orleans: Garden District Food and History Tour

1. New Orleans: Garden District Food and History Tour

Start at the Lafayette cemetery, where you will learn about the unique funeral customs and traditions of New Orleans. During the guided walk to the first restaurant stop, you will explore the architecture of the Garden District, home to historic mansions, colorful shotgun houses, and hauntingly beautiful oak trees. Then, check out local shops on Magazine Street. Visit three food stops that highlight Cajun and Creole flavors and history. The first food stop is an indulgent taste of Creole fusion and the multicultural influences that shaped the 300-year-old city. You'll also learn the history of the Cajun people and the influence of their hunting and farming society on the food culture of Louisiana. Along the way, visit locally-owned shops and an art gallery before finishing on a sweet note at the dessert stop for specialty, filled beignets, and cafe au lait. The first two food stops include either a choice from a menu of craft beers from local breweries, a cocktail, house sangria, or mimosa. Non-alcoholic drinks are also included and vegetarians and many dietary allergies can be accommodated. You'll also get plenty of recommendations for local fun on your trip so book for the start of your time in New Orleans.

Awesome tour- very informative and entertaining. Loved we got to make a stop at the cemetery. Also, it’s nice that they touch on Katrina hurricane and what preventative measures they have in place. There is something about a group tour- you feel like you belong to something for 2 hours. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed with all the people and things to see. I highly recommend this tour.

This was such a fun tour! We stopped at 3 different places to eat/drink and got to learn about the area and New Orleans in general at each stop and in between. Michelle was so nice and incredibly smart! The food we had (red beans and rice, napoleon, stuffed beignets and roast beef po boys) was all delicious! Highly suggest doing this tour and seeing the area!

The meeting point was perfect. We arrived early and had breakfast. Our guide James was right on time and provided an excellent tour! It was a perfect day and we really enjoyed seeing the beautiful homes and gardens. James brought some visual aids which were helpful and provided many interesting facts. I’ve already recommended this tour to friends.

Jim our guide was very good and explained things in a simple way with some amusing comments. Saw lots of New Orleans we wouldn’t have ventured to

Great tour of a beautiful area of the city. Away from the craziness.
