Veracruz. Arriving at Arena Mexico you will receive a free mask and a shot of tequila and will live and understand the culture of the wrestling art, explained by the guide. Mexican wrestling began in 1840, one hundred years before it became an official sport. The first wrestling took place in public squares, theaters, bull rings, or any small box ring where fight demonstrations take place. At the beginning of the 20th century, most of the wrestling promoters were foreigners, for example, the Italian Giovanni Resselech, who organized two wrestling seasons in 1910, and the Belgian Constant le Marin, who first made a presentation including a Mexican versus a Romanian wrestler in 1921. With this background and the increasing popularity of this activity, the first wrestling function was made in the Arena Mexico in September 21st of 1933, on the previously called Arena Modelo.

What people are saying about State of Mexico

I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and am so glad that I did it! I was travelling solo so was a little concerned initially about feeling safe etc. I did not need to worry as it worked out perfectly! I was collected from my hotel at the notified time and taken to the venue. The wrestling was so much fun and the crowd really gets into the vibe of things. I highly recommend! It was a great night for my first night in Mexico City especially as I didn't have to think about where to go, how I was going to get there and how I would get back to the hotel. The logistics were all taken care of for me.

Great night... don’t take anything too seriously but the beer, tequila and the acting were all cheap - and that’s what made it a fun time... Teo our guide helped us decide who to cheer for and the seats were spot on !!

Alan and Radael were great. Alan made the entire event really enjoyable. Dont miss out on this event even if you arent a fan of wrestling or the lucha libre. Its definitely something to remember.

Friendly, astute and well versed guide took us on a journey into a national treasure for which he had his own passion. And we had a blast to boot!
