Full description
Start your guided hiking adventure from the information desk of Piazza San Vincenzo. Depart 2 hours before sunset to admire the spectacular beauty along the side of the "Sciara del Fuoco." After a short briefing, hike to the highest observation point, at an altitude of 400m above sea level, reachable only accompanied by qualified volcanological guides. During the first 2 hours of trekking take 2 or 3 intermediate breaks to enjoy the view and, if you prefer, have the opportunity to capture the natural beauty of this wonderful landscape. Visit the old island cemetery and cross the typical Mediterranean bush. Upon reaching "Sciara del Fuoco", admire the spectacular "Strombolian" activity typical of the volcano. Finally, return to the starting point by crossing the typical Strombolian reed beds and the old mule track leading up to the crater.

perfect from start to finish. we had text messages on the day confirming our booking and explaining details of the meeting point. Giuseppe, our guide was very knowledgeable and explained about the volcano and landscape during the hike. when we reached the destination we waited until sunset and saw the volcano eruptions. excellent experience with a great guide who made sure we were all safe on the hike. make sure you take a jacket as it gets cool very quickly at 400 metres when the sun sets.

The tour up the volcano is a must! Try to find the smallest group possible to trek up the volcano. We saw groups of more than 20. Crazy! Bring a warm jacket and hat! When the evening hits and the dog rolls in, it gets very cool! Our guide was in a HUGE hurry to get home at night, and we did not receive one break to catch our breath. He was on the telephone a lot so he probably had plans made. It was very dangerous for us to hike that fast at night, even with the headlamps.

Friendly guide to climb part of the volcano (max 400m, given the current regulations in force). Good explanations in French and English. Group of about 20 people, walking and climbing at a good pace to enjoy the sunset and eruptions in the middle of the night. Having your own hiking shoes as well as a headlamp and poles makes this little trek easier. Note 2 hours of ascent, 1 hour at 400m altitude and return at night, 1h30 to 2 hours by another path with the possibility of stopping at the restaurant which also allows you to observe more of the eruptions of the volcano. Given the perspiration on the climb, bringing a spare dry t-shirt and a little sweatshirt is a very good idea that I was able to put to good use.
