From Tromsø: Northern Lights Visit at Camp Tamok

1. From Tromsø: Northern Lights Visit at Camp Tamok

The right settings to experience the Aurora Borealis are a dark location, starry sky, previous solar storms and sitting by a fire outside watching the northern sky while keeping yourself warm. Join us at our wilderness center Camp Tamok which offers a great setting for Northern Lights observation. After a 90-minute bus drive from Tromsø city center, you will arrive in an untouched wilderness surrounded by darkness as the camp is far removed from the bright city lights and situated in a drier climate zone with clear inland mountain weather. This dry climate generates many cloud-free night skies in winter (as well as during summer). Upon arrival, we will provide you with warm winter clothing and give a presentation about the Aurora Borealis and how to photograph it. Depending on the weather conditions, we will take you to different locations around the camp (by foot) from where the northern lights can be observed. When it is time to warm up, we will serve a hot meal inside around the open fire in a reindeer herder’s tent. After relaxing and warming up, it is time to board the bus again to be driven back to the city center of Tromsø. You will also get the option to book this activity excluding the bus transfer from Tromsø. When choosing this option, we expect you to arrive/leave by own transport at/from Camp Tamok.

Our guide Julius was excellent, he looked after us and made our tour interesting, despite no showing of the Northern Lights, which was disappointing. We did other activities to fill the time which were great and his knowledge and communication was exceptional. Really enjoyed it and it was memorable.

Camp is beautiful and magic place, our guide, Andrea was really professional and very good teacher on nortenlight and all things about astronomy. I suggest you this activity

Camp Tamok was fantastic. Excellent view of Northern lights directly above our heads, a traditional meal in a warm hut with a friendly husky. A real treat.

great location Very nice and competent supervisors. Perfect organization. Bright full moon night, unfortunately without polar lights.

A nice walk around the camp to see the aurora borealis
