6. From Taormina: Lipari and Vulcano Mini Cruise Aeolian Tour

The Aeolian Islands are a fascinating volcanic archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea north of Sicily. They are named after Aeolus, the demigod of the winds.  Lipari is the biggest, most populated Aeolian Island and has historically been the most significant. Lipari offers a grand archaeological museum housed in the buildings around the Duomo. Also impressive are the white shiny pumice quarries, which, overlooking the sea, give the water an amazing turquoise hue. Vulcano, which gives its name to all volcanoes, is particularly famous for its sulfurous mud baths and its smoking main crater. A man named Stevenson lived on Vulcano until the last major eruption in 1888. He never returned although his villa is still visible and intact. The tour departs from Taormina by bus to Milazzo harbour on the North coast of Sicily then continues by private boat to Lipari. In Lipari there is plenty of time to visit the old town center, to see the interesting archaeological park or simply shop for souvenirs. Guests then transfer by boat to the island of Vulcano for a second stop. Here there is the possibility to swim in the warm sulphureous seawater, have a mud bath, or enjoy the beach and have a delicious lunch (optional). As Napa regulars we have been on many wine tours but this far exceeds what we have come to expect from tours. Each stop along the tour was a world class setting with excellent food and equally excellent wines. The service was great and the driver was very punctual, courteous, and informative as well. It was a well thought out way to get a rich taste of Etnas wines and I would recommend to both beginners and wine experts alike!

Loads of fun and well thought out, our guide picked us up from our hotel and Taormina and drove us up to several awesome places on Mt Etna. There was moderate hiking involved and the guide was super informed about volcano science and geology, which made each stop very interesting. The off-roaring was also very fun and the overall experience was great! Would recommend for anybody looking for a ln adventurous half day at Etna

this was an incredible tour! Alessio was a well-informed, extremely polite, and made the trip exciting and also educational. I learned a lot about both Mt. Etna and the town of Taormina, while also seeing craters, cool caves, and beautiful views of Isola Bella and the town of Taormina. I HIGHLY recommend this tour and thank you Alessio for the wonderful day. It made my trip.

Gianfranco was great: friendly, didactical! Would highly recommend.

Guide very knowledgeable, flexible in schedule and helpful.
