We started our activity on a Friday morning in March. It was a beautiful sunny morning, however we did not know until last moment if the weather would permit ascending the peak. In the end we did it and it was great. After driving on mount Teide for approximatively 1 hour through pine trees and black lava, we finally arrived at the cable car at 2200 m altitude. There we waited our turn and climbed the remaining distance until the hiking spot by cable car. It should be noted that enhanced sanitary measures are in place at the cable car: only limited number of people can be in the cable car and after each group the cable car worker cleans / désinfects all the windows. Steffi is a great guide providing explanations about the geology, flora and fauna of the mountain. She is a nature and hike lover and she shares that with the people around. The hike itself is moderately difficult, it can be intense if you go fast but if you take it slow is quite easy and short.
Although it was cloudy all day on the coast, we soon rose through the clouds and emerged into a very impressive volcanic landscape under blue skies and sunshine. While waiting for the wind speed to drop so that we could make the cable car ascent to the summit of Teide, our guide led us on an informative walk around the local rock formations. I learned much from this, as indeed from the commentary we heard while driving to and from the national park area. Sadly, the wind did not drop and we were unable to reach the summit of Teide but this did not ruin the tour. It was worth seeing the interior of the island, which is spectacular. The summit would have been a bonus but there’s always next time!
This was such a wonderful tour. Amazingly friendly and informative guide Steffi navigated talking to people of different nationalities with ease. The bus journey was comfortable and we were very grateful for the early start- it gets incredibly busy at the cable car station. Be aware, the hike (it’s steep and rocky) to the summit may seem short in distance but the altitude makes a big difference. You have to take it slowly. Steffi checked on us all the way up which was so reassuring. The views and sense of achievement at the summit are fantastic. Thoroughly recommend this tour.
Very good coordination before the hike, setting up timing and location for the early morning pickup. We made a couple of stops on the way to the cable cars, to see the largest pine tree in the islands and to have a coffee. Dario was our guide, and he was very knowledgeable. His English is excellent. Great commentary in the tour bus and also as we made our way up the trail. Only drawback was that the trail to the volcano top was closed due to icy conditions. I highly recommend this tour if you want to see El Teide.
I would have checked 5 stars if the communication with the platform was not bad. It was very clear with the local organization until that GYG gave us 2 new different new hours for pick-up meeting... For the rest of the experience, nothing to add. The guide was very good, the walk also and the view at the top so unbelievable. We had chance because it was closed when we arrived but after 1h30, they opened the path to the peak and then, all was perfect.
