Venice: Murano Glassblowing & Burano Lacemaking Tour by Boat

1. Venice: Murano Glassblowing & Burano Lacemaking Tour by Boat

Escape the crowds of central Venice and catch a glimpse of what life in the city used to be like, as an island of artisans famous for their traditional craft skills, passed down from generation to generation. Your guide will keep you entertained on the short boat ride to the small island of Murano, famous for its glass making traditions. Find out the facinating story of Murano glassblowers and how their skills were so valued they were banned from leaving Venice on the threat of execution. Watch a craftsman in action and listen to a description of the process in English. Learn how silica sand becomes glass, and how the glass is given color. Afterwards, there will be time to browse the huge collection of glass art, and wander the island on your own. Cruise to the tiny island of Burano to see the brightly-painted houses huddled tightly together along streets and canals. Uncover Burano’s centuries-old lacemaking tradition as you visit a building where women still partake in this tradition of stitching lace. Your guide will explain the process of this dying art. Then, you can follow in the footsteps of Michelangelo and pick out your own keepsake. Or, wander the winding streets, sampling delicious cookies at local bakeries. Unlike other tours, this excursion intentionally omits Torcello to provide you with more time on Murano and Burano, and with less time on the boat or trekking inland.

Made getting to the islands so much easier. We were only in Venice for 2 days and figuring out the transportation was just not an option for us. Our guide was great. She told us about each of the 2 islands and we had a demonstration on both. Then about and hour to ourselves. Not really long enough in burano considering it was lunch time and we all had to eat. So no time to really see it. I would suggest the tour add another hour on just to allow for that. But over all it was great. A bit of a long ride back on the boat to Venice. Maybe an hour. Which was comfortable. Maybe 20 of us on a smaller boat but fully covered from the sun and good air flow. So that was great bec it was hot. Pay close attention to meeting point. She was right where she was supposed to be but if you don’t know the area it can be chaotic.

This is a fabulous tour as it covers 3 distinctive picturesque islands. The guide was friendly and helpful. My friend and i were able to enjoy our time. We were fascinated by the Glass Blowing Demonstration and glass ornaments at Murano. The glass blowing craftman is surely a fantastic excellent expertist. While approaching Burano, I was thrilled to see yet another leaning tower in Italy. I was mesmersized by the colourful pretty houses in Burano. Not to forget there are a few splendid handcraft shops where you can get great sourvenir. The scenery, cafetaria and handcraft shops makes the trip unforgettable. As for Torcello, it is yet another signature island where you get to explore the history, ruin and beauty of its nature. Don't miss this opportunity to indulge yourself with different exprience.

Susana was great! Along with the rest of our group, we caught a private water taxi to the two islands. We had about 1.5hrs on Murano after a demonstration at a glass making factory. After that we were able to visit the gallery or a walk around the city center. We then caught the private water taxi to Burano, where we went to a lace making shop. The demo wasn’t as great here but it was still interesting to walk around the store. We then had two hours on Burano, which was beautiful. There were lots of little shops, bakeries, restaurants and it was fun to walk around town. I bought cookies and sat at the waterfront and watched all the taxis arrive. It was one of the highlights of my trip to Venice.

Francesca B was an amazing tour guide, great knowledge of islands we visited as well as those on the way to and from Venice. Boat ride was comfortable and informative. Tour of Burbank and Murano was beautiful and is definitely a must see for tourists. Would recommend to anyone!
