Pompeii & Herculaneum Shore Excursion with Archaeologist

1. Pompeii & Herculaneum Shore Excursion with Archaeologist

Experience an unforgettable shore excursion from Naples including a group tour in Pompeii and Herculaneum led by an expert Archaeologist guide. See the major highlights. First, get picked up from Naples Central Station. Enjoy a comfortable transfer to Pompeii in a modern minivan with a maximum of 8 people. When you arrive, benefit from skip-the-line entry and then take a pleasant walk around the ancient Roman city. Learn about how the area was buried by the volcanic ashes of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.  As you walk, learn about the history of the town and how the Romans lived. See all the most important public buildings and private houses on a 2-hour walk. Highlights include the Marina Gate, the Basilica, the Forum, the Forum Baths, the Lupanar (brothel), the Bakery, the House of Faun, the Termopolium Capuano, the House of Tragic Poet, and the plaster casts. Then, after a 1-hour lunch in downtown Pompeii, the driver will pick you up and transfer you to Herculaneum for another 2-hour guided tour. Once again, enter with skip-the-line tickets, and see how Herculaneum is much smaller but better preserved than Pompeii. See how whilst Pompeii was covered by 4 to 5 meters of ashes, Herculaneum was buried under a landslide of 20-meter deep mud. During the tour, discover carbonized wooden objects, intact paintings, and mosaics which are still preserved. Highlights include the Temple of the Augustali, the beach where more than 300 skeletons were found, the Thermal Baths, the Forum, the Samnite House, the Gymnasium, the House of the Dears, and much more. Finally, get dropped off back at the train station in time for your onward departure.

3. Pompeii: Private Ancient Pompeii and Herculaneum Tour

Starting from the Pompeii archaeological site, you will pass onto the streets of this ancient city. You will walk on the volcanic stones’ pavement, and stop by the ancient fountains. You will also enter the houses, shops, restaurants, and bakeries, passing by the Temple of the Egyptian Goddess Isis and the Baths, whose decorations will leave you breathless. When walking inside the theaters, you are welcome to sit on the cavea terraces and ask your guide to show you their eternal acoustic perfection. Last but not the least, before heading to the Forum (the center of the public and political life of the time), you will visit the astonishing House of Menander, famous all around the world for its decorations. You will then pass into the Lupanariae, which is the former red-light district. Next on your agenda will be the Herculaneum. Your live guide will lead you in this journey across the centuries, and will be happy to reply to all of your questions and curiosities.

What people are saying about Torre Annunziata

One of the best tours of our 10 day cruise - we had Vince as a guide and he was excellent at both managing our group and giving historical commentary of the ruins. We selected the option to have a private driver, which I ended up preferring over the train method, because it gave us more time after Pompeii to enjoy the area and have a meal. Aksos tours also offered pickup from our cruise ship, which was very helpful if you are visiting via port. Despite Pompeii being very busy, I felt we were able to see a good amount considering the time spent, and I was impressed at how our guide managed our group through the dense crowds. We especially loved our time spent in Herculaneum, and it was much less crowded there and even more beautiful.

We had an excellent day. Pick up was smooth from Naples, only took 20 minutes to get to Pompeii. Our guide around Pompeii was brilliant, she was very knowledgeable. The winery was about 20 minutes from Pompeii, staff were great. There was a 20 minute tour of the vineyard followed by a 4 course lunch and 5 wines to taste. Amazing day!

Francesco and Vincenzo were absolutely wonderful! We had an incredible time on our tour, also Francesco's soundtrack in the car was a total vibe. Vincenzo was incredibly knowledgeable and a great guide to both sites! we would definitely book with these guys again, and highly recommend anyone do so!

Great tour with Vincenzo. We enjoyed both archeological sites and were glad we could see them both before leaving Italy. Tour was laid out well and you get an hour break in between the two sites to eat lunch.

Very well organised and informative tour. Highly recommend.
