Actual Sami people that have a reindeer farm that they take great care of. It was a 45 mins drive to the place from Tromso central, and we totally loved it. Everyone gets a bucket filled with food and gets to feed the beautiful animals that are very friendly, even though sometimes they get a bit too excited about the food:)) You can upgrade to a reindeer sledding as well but if you don't you get extra time with the reindeers in the farm. After that you get a warm meal in the tent - reindeer stew and the sami people out there tell you a little bit abiut their traditions. They are super open to questions and always trying their best to make sure everyone has a great time.

Nice experience, book it with a sled tour, because the group with and without a sled tour are together. Then you will be asked if you want to upgrade for the tour and it will cost €60 on the spot. For a 20 minute trip. Think carefully about this. The feeding is fun, the sleigh ride is fun and the information about the Sami culture is fantastic.

We skipped the sleigh ride and were so lucky to be able to spend twice as much time with these lovely animals. A super organized experience, at the beginning there is a welcome and briefing and then armed with the feeding buckets we go straight into the fray. Such trusting and kind animals that will even eat out of your hand. Sometimes there's a bit of bickering about who gets to eat first, there's a lot of hustle and bustle! Incidentally, thermal clothing can be hired on site if required. We recommend merino wool, fleece and insulated jackets and pants and definitely mittens. It's much colder here than in the city! After feeding the animals we go to the warm hut for hot drinks and delicious reindeer stew (or a vegan version). In addition to the history and culture of the Sami, the hosts try very hard to ensure that all guests are well and that nothing is missing. A very interesting insight into a completely different way of life.
