Tromsø: Small-Group Northern Lights Tour
- Small group
- Duration: 6 hours
Hop aboard a minibus and chase the spectacular Northern Lights with an experienced guide. Marvel at the rugged beauty of the Arctic as you explore.
After pickup in the city center, head towards the mountains, fjords, and valleys. Take the route best suited to the weather conditions with clear skies.
With the expertise of your guide, pursue the Northern Lights, sometimes as far as the Finnish and Swedish borders. Enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience and savor the immense beauty of your surroundings.
Keep your energy up with some hot drinks and snacks, and prepare to take lots of photos on the trip. The guide will also take photos and share them with the group after the trip.
This was one of the most amazing experience I have ever had. The guides were very knowledgable and knew exactly where to go and stop for the best chance to see the lights. We were incredibly lucky that the lights were so active the night we went and the guides ‘chased’ them ensuring we had plenty of opportunities to see them & take pictures. The guide took outstanding pictures and emailed them to me a few days after the tour and helped us get the best possible pictures on our phones. At the end of the night we had hotdogs and marshmallows by the campfire which was nice. They also provided plenty of drinks/snacks along the way and polar suits which meant we stayed warm. The guides were lovely and there was a good atmosphere on the bus with plenty of music/chatting and it was comfortable. Couldn’t recommend enough especially for the price compared to others!
Begin by being picked up from your accommodation in the city center or the tour meeting point. From there, your guide provides you with information about the weather, the lights' activity, your chances for the evening, and expectations to see the lights on that particular night. From there you are taken to a location most suited to the evening's conditions. Groups are sometimes required to travel deep into Finland in order to find a good spot, so remember to take your passport with you. Once you have reached your chosen location, your guides set up a bonfire before helping you with your camera, setting it up to best capture the Northern lights. Throughout your tour, your guides also serve you hot chocolate and snacks. Later, enjoy a picnic-style barbecue during which you enjoy traditional Norwegian fiskekake (fish burgers), or sausages with tortilla bread. Make the most of thi...
The guide was helpful and really passionate about the northern lights and northern Norway in general, he made us feel that we didn’t need to hesitate about asking anything. We had a northern lights parade this night as well.Recommend this trip 100%.
To start the adventure, your driver will meet you at the pickup point at the Scandic Ishavshotel 10 minutes before your scheduled departure. You will hop on the comfortable minibus and enjoy the short 35-minute drive out to the kennel on the island of Kvaløya. When you arrive at the kennel, you will be directed to the equipment room, where you will be kitted out with everything you need including winter suits, boots, and headlamps. You will be able to leave any items that you do not need in the lockers. Once kitted out, you will see the kennel of 130 Alaskan Huskies, who are always excited to meet guests. You will be given a short talk and a demonstration on how to drive a sled and be able to ask any questions that you may have. After everyone is happy with the instructions you will follow your guide up to where your teams are ready and waiting for you. Each pair, one passenger and one...
Fantastic day at the Arctic Adventure. The huskies were so friendly and cute. The sled ride was awesome (the perfect weather conditions was no disadvantage of course!). We really enjoyed Hege's chocolate cake and coffee, and otherwise her warm hospitality. We also had a good briefing of the huskies and what they do during the different seasons. Thanks for a wonderful day!
Prior to every tour your experienced guides will have analysed weather predictions for the best chances of seeing the Northern Lights. With no two nights the same, your guides' enthusiasm and dedication never fades. Drive out into beautiful remote scenery in a custom built 4x4 tour van. Most of the time this is a shorter drive to the surrounding coastal islands of Tromsø, or if needed a longer drive into Finland. Upon reaching suitable skies, you will set up camp for the evening. Some nights the Northern Lights are visible en-route to location, and can last throughout the evening. Other nights require patience and positivity to witness a faint glow across the horizon. Even though the Aurora appears most nights, no forecast can predict what you are going to see, and it's all about taking chances. Staying comfortable on an Arctic winters night is essential. Warm up around the roaring ca...
Me and my girlfriend had an amazing experience. Hannah and Jeff did an incredible job from start to finish and we really had a good time. I highly recommend going with Hannah and Jeff for this magical experience.
Watch magnificent humpback whales and orcas feed on shoals of herring when they migrate to Skjervoy between November and January. Enjoy a scenic panoramic drive from Tromso to Skjervoy, then hop into a rigid-inflatable boat (RIB) for a once in a lifetime experience in a small group of between 4-12 people. Meet at the Scandic Ishavshotel in Tromso bright and early at 6 AM. From here, drive for 3.5 hours to Skjervoy to meet your English-speaking guide. Once in Skjervoy, receive a warm flotation suit before getting into the RIB. Then, set off on a 2.5-hour whale watching excursion in the Kvaenangen Fjord. Marvel at the natural scenery and keep your eyes peeled for orcas and humpback whales, as well as other local wildlife. After your excursion, refresh with some sandwiches, tea, and coffee before driving back to Tromso.
Amazing activity. We were able to watch a large group of orcas very close to the boat and also one humpback whale. The guides acted respectfully around the whales and helped ud to point out the whales. I would warmly recommend the trip, though I must mention it can be rough if you suffer easily from seasickness.
Orcas and Humpback whales are in Skjervoy from November to January. The local provider will pick you up at 6:00 AM outside Scandic Ishavshotel, drive you to Skjervoy, give you warm flotation suits and take you on a once in a lifetime whale watching experience on Rib-boats. Enjoy sandwiches, tea and coffee and continue to the Green Gold Villa in the Lyngen Alps. Here you’ll get a nice and warm group dinner and short photo workshop. Experience the Northern Lights at night and photograph the incredible phenomenon right outside the Green Gold Villa. Accommodation is at one of six private Crystal Lavvos. Next morning, enjoy breakfast together before returning to Tromso at 11:00 AM.
It was the best of our trip this year. Amazing experience, scenery and polar light.
