Full description

Treat yourself to a guided tour of the magical new winter wonderland of the Tromso Ice Domes. Travel in a climate-controlled coach from downtown Tromso. Admire the ice hotel and how ice art reflect the unique bond between man and nature. Meet reindeer and have an ice-shot and some hearty stew.

Depart from the Magic Ice Bar in the morning for a scenic 75-minute drive to the fairytale venue in the Arctic wilderness. Set among high mountains in the Tamok Valley, the Tromso Ice Domes is built every year as the Polar Night approaches.

The ice bars, ice cinema, ice bedrooms, and ice restaurant have themes ranging from local Sami culture to the Northern Lights conveyed through beautiful colored lighting and wonderful ice sculptures. On arrival at Tromso Ice domes, you will be greeted by your guide who will share their knowledge about the construction process of an ice hotel and about the impact the snow has for the survival of the arctic animals.

Visit a small group of reindeer and enjoy a short video display in the ice cinema. A non-alcoholic ice shot at the stunning ice bar is complementary. Welcome to a once-in-a-lifetime experience of snow and ice magic in the Arctic wilderness.

It is a beautiful drive (1.5 hr) to the camp where the Ice Domes are located. We did a morning trip and I would suggest you sit on the right side of the bus for the best views and photos. The left side has best views on the return but photographs are harder due to the setting sun and glare. The tour is described as 4 hours but it left on time at 10:30 but we did not return until 4:00 PM. Important to know in case you have another event for the evening. They served a fish soup and piping hot coffee/tea/instant cocoa. They break the bus group up into two groups which is a good plan. Half go to eat and see reindeer while the other group goes through the Ice Domes.

Very impressive ice domes and carvings, guide gave a great introduction to Vikings, Sami people and Scandinavian mythology. Honestly, we thought it would just be a time killer before our flight that night, but it was one of our favorite parts. FYI vegan lunch option was much better than meat. Also, there are only 4 reindeer, but they are friendly. The bus driver was also fantastic, friendly and professional and an amazing driver, even in heavy snowing conditions.

This was an unreal experience! The Domes are so well created and so much time and effort goes into making them. The tour guides made the experience very interesting telling us about the history of Norway and how the domes were Inspired by Norse mythology. The tour guides stuck to time frames and we was provided with lunch. An option of fish soup or vegetable soup for vegetarians.
