Skip The Line Cappadocia: Small-Group Guided Tour

7. Skip The Line Cappadocia: Small-Group Guided Tour

The driver and the guide will pick you up from your hotel in the morning. Then you can decide with them what to visit. Cappadocia's most famous attraction, for good reason, is the Göreme Open Air Museum, a complex of medieval painted cave churches carved out by Orthodox monks. There are over 10 cave churches in the Göreme Open Air Museum. Along with rectories, dwellings, and a religious school, they form a large monastic complex carved out of a roughly ring-shaped rock formation in the otherworldly landscape of Cappadocia. Old Cavusin, with its rock-cut dwellings and stone houses, had several hermitages. The two most important churches in Cavusin are the Great Basilica dedicated to St. John the Baptist and Cavusin Church or the 'Great Pigeon House'. The old city of Avanos, whose name in ancient times was Venessa, overlooks the longest river in Turkey, the Kızılırmak (Red River). The ceramic trade in this district and its countless pottery factories date back to the Hittites, and the ceramic clay from the red silt of the Kızılırmak has always been used locally. Watch the potters at work using the kick wheel, using a technique that has not changed for generations. Pasabag, the remarkable earth pillars, can also be seen here, in the middle of a vineyard - hence the name of the place which means: the Pasha’s vineyard. Also known as Imaginary Valley or Pink Valley, this area does not have cave churches like the other valleys of Cappadocia. The small fairy chimneys in the valley form a lunar landscape, or moonscape, by their strange appearance. The valley has many animal-shaped rocks. Some of the most commonly seen shapes include camel, snake, seals, and dolphins.

In the morning, meet your guide at your hotel, and then will start your Cappadocia South Tour. Begin at the Meskendir Valley. The entrance of the valley which is covered with cedars, 4400 m in length is rather steep. The Valley is also a cheerful trekking course with fairy chimneys, passages, tunnels, and great vegetation. As well as churches and caves situated in the region, Meskendir Church is one of the most worth-seeing structures in every respect. Explore the Rose Valley, a large valley located between Goreme and Cavusin villages divided into many smaller valleys: Gulludere, Kizilcukur, Meskendir, and Zindanonu valleys. This beautiful valley gets its name from the rose-colored rock that varies in hue and intensity depending on the time of day, season, and weather conditions. During the hike, visit several cave churches, cave houses, and cave tunnels. Rose Valley has paths for easy, medium, and difficult levels. The most common path in the valley takes around 2 hours (3.5 km).  Reach Cavusin old town, the church of St. John the Baptist rises on top of the hill. The church was built in the 5th century and it is the biggest cave church of Cappadocia even though it was divided into three rooms in the 10th century against the danger of collapsing. Most of the frescoes of St. John the Baptist church are faded by smoke but there are still some visible ones. Discover Kaymakli underground city, built under the hill known as the Citadel of Kaymakli and opened to visitors in 1964. The people of Kaymakli village have constructed their houses around nearly one hundred tunnels of the underground city. The inhabitants of the region still use the most convenient places in the tunnels as cellars, storage areas, and stables, which they access through their courtyards. The Kaymakli Underground City has low, narrow, and sloping passages. While the underground city consists of 8 floors below ground, only 4 of them are open to the public today, in which the spaces are organized around ventilation shafts.  Continue to Uchisar, situated at the highest point in Cappadocia, on the Nevsehir-Goreme road, just 5 km from Goreme. The top of the Uchisar Castle provides a magnificent panorama of the surrounding area with Mount Erciyes in the distance. Many rooms hollowed out into the rock are connected to each other with stairs, tunnels, and passages. Finish at Pigeon valley, situated between Göreme and Uçhisar and ideal for walking, as the trek is relatively easy. The name comes from the thousands of pigeon houses that have been carved into the soft tuff since ancient times. Although they can be found throughout Cappadocia, they are especially numerous in this valley. They were carved wherever space allowed, including abandoned cave houses and churches. In Cappadocia, pigeons have long been a source of food and fertilizer.  After a wonderful tour around the south side of Cappadocia, you will be transferred back to their hotel

Our tour was with the amazing Elif!!! She was really easy to talk to, nice personality, professional, and very knowledgeable about the history of the region and every attraction stop. It was a wonderful day and a great buy. Next time, we come to town, I hope to do another tour with her and the company. Remember, you will pay for entrance fees and lunch!!! Even with having to pay, it was a great value as it was a private tour with only your party. Best thing ever in my opinion, and we still came out on a great value in comparison to other private tours!!! Thanks for a wonderful introduction to Cappadocia, Elif. -C and A!!! Florida, USA FYI: Do not forget to tip for wonderful services. Good tips folks! She's awesome

Excellent day tour with private guide & driver to see the highlights of Cappadocia. The van was very nice and clean. Our guide Elif was very knowledgeable. We saw a lot in one day. She also offered us the use of umbrella for the hot sun and cold drinks which was much appreciated after a hot walk in the sun. We only wanted to do a few things since the weather was very warm and she kindly accommodated our schedule. Highly recommend this tour.

we had a small group tour and it was fantastic to learn all about cappadocia. Recep was a great tour guide- answering every question that we could think of.

Excellent tour. Ali was a great guide and pretty funny too at times. The tour organized well, with just the right amount of time at each POI.

Vi fikk se det som er så karakteristisk for området, det vi forbinder med Kappadokia.
