Petra name came from the Latin word ‘petrae’ ,meaning ‘rock’, lies in a great rift valley east of Wadi Araba in Jordan about 80 kilometers south of the Dead Sea – 260Km to the south – South-west of Amman – Jordan Capital. It came into prominence in the late first BCE (BC) through the success of the spice trade. The city was the principal city of ancient Nabataea and was famous above all for two things: its trade and its hydraulic engineering systems. It was locally autonomous until the reign of Trajan, but it flourished under Roman rule. The town grew up around its Colonnaded. Following the flow of the Wadi Musa, the city-center was laid out on either sides of the Colonnaded Street on an elongated plan between the theater in the east and the Qasr al-Bint in the west. The quarries were probably opened in this period, and there followed virtually continuous building through the first and the second centuries CE.

The 3 day 2 night tour is a great way to have a worry-free experience at all the key sights in Jordan. Everything was well planned and executed and expectations were set very clearly by the tour company, so we knew exactly what we were signing up for (would suggest reading the helpful details before booking). We purchased the Jordan pass as suggested and saved substantially on visa and entrance fees. Special shout out to our driver Ahmed, who was kind, respectful, punctual, and helped us customize each of the three days to our liking. As clearly communicated on the booking description, a basic level of English and facilitation can be expected of the driver, but we would suggest not expecting the driver to be a fully English-fluent local guide. This was perfect for our travel style since we like to explore quickly and extensively on our own at each site, with Ahmed masterfully handling all of the transport and logistics between stops and hotels. He even went above and beyond to order

I am in love with Petra City and Wadi Rum! Advicing everyone to visit Jordan and experience these beautiful places. Our tour guide Mr Murad was a super experienced and helpful person! He explained everything in detailed and showed patience in any situations. Thank you so much for being a part of our amazing tour and thank you for your all respectful behaviours and guidance!
