We had a flight at 6 pm so on 02/20/20, we decided to book 6 hour penguin tour knowing fully well that you don’t get On island. Boat stopped for about 15 min to take pictures of seals. Then on our way to penguin island, captain noticed 2 humpback whales so slowed down and followed them for about 30-40 min so we could see them from about 50 ft and take pictures. Then reached penguin colony where we got 15-20 min picture time. On our way back, saw the whales again and captain again gave us ample time to enjoy the show the whales put up for us! That made this trip totally worth it. Tour went beyond 6 hours and we made to our flight! So all good. Also, there were folks that got off for Haberton ranch visit. I would have preferred separate tour for them and giving us about 30 min on island. Without it probably a bit boring. I was a bit disappointed at less time on penguin island for photos but whale watching surely was a free bonus and ate into penguin visit time so no regrets.
Nawel (i know i am spelling it wrong) was really wonderful, pleasant, and overall my dad and I had a blast. The driver knew exactly what he was doing and it was impressive! Nawel knew a lot about everything- he pretty much was able to answer all of our questions. We saw amazing lakes in the area, had one of the best Lunch i’ve had in Ushuaia (better than a restaurant) and our group was very social and we all were buddies by the end of it. Would definitely recommend!
It's a long trek ( if you are not a trekker) and requires waterproof boots, most of the trek is on damp and Marsh soli. The alternative you are offered of cheap rubber boots is not very good. The ones my wife used were ruptured and they don't give you a good support. You will need trekking poles, but they are provided by the operator. Other than these operating issues it was very nice trek with very beautiful scenary.
Definitely worth every dollar! At the end of February, 20 degrees, amazing weather, amazing memories. Tour was most then enough. We saw sea lions, cormorans, we took a walk in the middle of the Giggle Channel (Puerto Karelo) and of course we sau the Lighthouse At The End Of The World!
We mostly went on the trip to watch seabirds and it was amazing for that. We brought binoculars and were able to see a number of species. Our guide was incredibly knowledgable and helpful and enthusiastic and we had a great time. Also we saw whales.
