Full description
Experience a more intimate, everyday side to Venice on a combined secret walking tour and guided tour of the Doge’s Palace, former residence of the Doge of Venice, the supreme authority of the former Republic of Venice. Meet your guide near St. Mark’s Square, and enter the Doge’s Palace for a guided tour of the lavish apartments and Institutional Chambers. See masterpieces of art, and ornate decorations by Tinteretto, Veronese and others. Marvel at the ceremonial Giants’ Staircase, guarded by Sansovino’s colossal statues of Mars and Neptune. Cross into the Armoury, and see the legendary Bridge of Sighs, where the condemned would get a last view of Venice before entering the prisons. Then, discover some of the hidden sites of the city center on a walking tour of the lesser-known quarters between St. Mark’s Square and the Rialto Bridge. Admire the unusual façade of La Fenice opera house, and the Bovolo Spiral Staircase in Contarini Palace. Experience everyday life in the city in the picturesque streets around the Rialto market, discovering small, artisan shops and typical inns along the way.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour, as the guide, Katrina, had a wonderful sense of humour and made the history really interesting. The Doge’s Palace is amazing.

    Insider tips ???

At the meeting point Veronica greeted us and first accompanied us through the Doge's Palace with a small group. The tour was very interesting and with detailed explanations. After 1 1/2 hours we were taken to another meeting point where other guests came to the group to take the walk together. Then we were led through various alleys. B. Teatro La Fenice and Scala Contarini del Bovolo. We didn't feel that we were given any insider tips. The various meeting points also lost half an hour, which is why we only recommend the tour to a limited extent.
